Lakeside School, an independent 5-12 coeducational day school located in North Seattle, seeks a music director for the 8th grade’s musical, Hans Christian Andersen, Jr

Schedule & Timeline

• Auditions: November 4-6, 2025
  
• Rehearsals: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 3:40–5:40 p.m., mid-November to early February
  
• Extended rehearsals: Begin week of February 2, 2026
  
• Performances: February 10–12, 2026

Performance Note
This production will use provided backing tracks instead of a live pit. The music director should have strong piano skills for teaching and rehearsal purposes—able to play individual vocal lines or two to three lines with chords—but performance-level accompaniment is not required. Familiarity with music editing software is highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Attend production meetings.

• Attend auditions and collaborate with the director on casting.

• Lead large-group music rehearsals.

• Provide individual and small-group vocal coaching to soloists and featured singers.

• Assist in stage rehearsals by playing tracks, cueing vocal parts, and correcting mistakes.

• Edit vocal tracks as needed.

• Lead vocal warm-ups before rehearsals.

• Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications

1. Ability to attend all agreed upon rehearsals and performances (transportation not provided).

2. Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.

3. Satisfactory completion of three criminal background checks.

Compensation
Stipend: $4000
