Job SummaryThe General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and performance of the facility, including warehouse operations, employees, customer relationships, safety, service, and financial results. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for approximately 50 employees, including Warehouse Supervisors. The General Manager maintains an active presence on the warehouse floor, supports daily operations, develops the team, manages the facility P&L, and serves as the primary customer-facing leader for the site.
Duties and Responsibilities- Lead daily warehouse operations, including receiving, loading/unloading, put-away, picking, packing, inventory control, staging, and shipping.
- Maintain an active presence on the warehouse floor, engaging with supervisors and employees and assisting with operational needs when necessary.
- Directly supervise, coach, and develop Warehouse Supervisors while establishing clear expectations for safety, quality, productivity, service, and accountability.
- Lead approximately 50 employees across the operation and ensure appropriate staffing, scheduling, training, and workforce utilization.
- Ensure customer requirements, service expectations, inventory accuracy, and operational commitments are consistently achieved.
- Serve as the primary site contact for customers, including business reviews, site visits, operational discussions, escalations, and urgent requests.
- Monitor KPIs, productivity, labor utilization, inventory accuracy, service performance, and other operational measures to identify and implement improvements.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and consistency.
- Manage facility P&L, budgeting, forecasting, labor costs, operating expenses, and overall financial performance.
- Partner with company leadership and support functions to address customer, staffing, operational, financial, and facility needs.
- Build a strong facility culture focused on teamwork, accountability, communication, customer service, and employee development.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and applicable warehouse safety regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Proven leadership experience in warehouse, distribution, fulfillment, 3PL, manufacturing, or similar operations.
- Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, including receiving, shipping, inventory control, picking/packing, material movement, and labor management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead supervisors and hourly employees in a multi-shift environment.
- Hands-on leadership style with the willingness to spend significant time working alongside the team on the warehouse floor.
- Strong customer relationship skills with experience conducting customer meetings, handling escalations, and communicating operational performance.
- Strong business and financial acumen with experience managing budgets, labor costs, operating expenses, and P&L performance.
- Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use KPIs and operational data to drive continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), inventory control systems, and MS Office.
- Ability to adapt and respond effectively in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment.
- Knowledge of warehouse safety requirements and best practices.
- Minimal travel to additional locations as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- Minimum five years of operations leadership experience, preferably within warehousing, distribution, fulfillment, 3PL, or a similar environment.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the warehouse.
- Ability to work in an active warehouse environment and regularly move between operational and office areas.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Periodic desk and computer work is required for customer communication, reporting, and financial responsibilities.
