The Leadman is a working field leader responsible for leading by example while assisting with daily operations on Distributed Generation (DG) solar projects. This position will primarily perform vegetation management (mowing) at solar facilities while supervising a small crew and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently. The Leadman will drive a company truck, transport trailers and mowing equipment between project sites, and operate commercial mowing equipment. When vegetation management activities are complete or not required, the Leadman will transition to supporting the DG installation crew with solar construction activities. This position spends most of the day performing hands-on work alongside the crew.

Leadership & Field Coordination

1. Lead by example by working alongside the crew while supporting the Foreman in coordinating daily construction activities and maintaining a safe, productive work environment.
2. Provide day-to-day guidance and technical support to crew members, ensuring work is performed according to project specifications, quality standards, and company expectations.
3. Monitor daily work progress, communicate field challenges or resource needs, and assist the Foreman in keeping work on schedule.
4. Mentor and train crew members on proper construction techniques, safe work practices, and efficient jobsite procedures to support workforce development.
5. Promote teamwork, accountability, and professionalism while reinforcing company values and escalating safety, quality, or personnel concerns to field leadership when appropriate.

Vegetation Management

1. Operate commercial mowing equipment at DG solar sites.
2. Drive a company truck and safely haul trailers, mowing equipment, and tools between multiple project locations.
3. Perform daily inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment.
4. Complete routine cleaning and minor maintenance of mowing equipment safely.
5. Maintain vegetation around solar equipment while protecting site infrastructure.

Equipment & Tool Handling

1. Safely operate basic construction equipment (hand tools, power tools, ladders, etc.).
2. Inspect tools and equipment before use and report any issues.
3. Ensure tools are stored properly and maintained in good condition.

Safety Compliance & Quality

1. Follow company safety protocols and OSHA guidelines at all times.
2. Participate in daily safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and continuous improvement efforts to support safe and successful project execution.
3. Follow all company and project-specific safety guidelines, including renewable-energy-site protocols, lockout/tagout, and equipment-specific procedures.
4. Wear all required PPE at all times, including gloves, safety glasses, hard hats, safety vests, and protective footwear, report unsafe conditions immediately.
5. Maintain awareness of surroundings—especially around heavy equipment, energized work areas, and active installations.
6. Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors to ensure safe, coordinated work practices.
7. Conduct work with a strong focus on quality, ensuring installations meet project specifications and company workmanship standards.
8. Identify, address, and report unsafe conditions, quality concerns, or potential project risks while taking appropriate action to prevent incidents.

Support for Installation Activities

1. Assist with measuring, marking, and preparing areas for installation work.
2. Help position, hold, or stabilize materials during installation tasks.
3. Provide general support to ensure installation teams work efficiently.
4. When mowing is not required, the Leadman will:
5. Assist with installation of racking systems, modules, and other solar components.
6. Perform general construction labor and material handling.
7. Assist with site layout, cleanup, and material staging.
8. Support the installation crew wherever additional manpower is needed.
9. Maintain quality workmanship while meeting project schedules.

Planning & Documentation

1. Assist the Foreman in planning daily work activities by reviewing project priorities, coordinating resources, and supporting efficient crew assignments.
2. Maintain accurate daily documentation, including production reports, employee time records, equipment inspections, and other required project documentation.
3. Monitor material usage, small tools, and equipment to ensure resources are available, maintained, and ready for daily operations.
4. Communicate material shortages, equipment concerns, production delays, or field issues to project leadership in a timely manner.
5. Support project execution by helping maintain organized documentation and accurate reporting throughout all phases of construction.

Miscellaneous Duties:

1. Receive Supervisory guidance concerning overall objectives; operate within department policy guidelines using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives and perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
2. Always adhere to company procedures and policies.
3. Attend and participate in meetings as required.
4. Provide support on any special projects as requested.
5. Available 24/7 as needed for emergencies.
6. Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
7. Ensure regular and timely attendance.
8. Travel as needed.
