Job Description
The Role
The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for ensuring the effective upkeep and repair of the Agency’s facilities and group homes. This also includes performing electrical work, plumbing, and carpentry. In addition to addressing immediate maintenance needs, the technician is also tasked with maintaining a comprehensive preventative maintenance program to improve the quality, safety, and appearance of all properties.
This position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
• Completes all requested maintenance work daily. Alert management of extraordinary requests.
• Follow up and through on all assignment and activities relating to electrical, plumbing, appliance repair, and carpentry. Provide detailed reports to management.
• Assures that all facilities and equipment are properly maintained and in good, safe working order, and that all necessary preventive maintenance work be performed on a timely basis with adequate record keeping and communication to management and customers.
• Assists in movement of furniture, materials and equipment as required.
• Drives an assigned vehicles as required and maintains security of all assigned equipment and maintenance tools.
OTHER DUTIES
• Uphold and comply with all safety programs and policies to maintain a safe work environment for employees, consumers, family members and visitors.
• Complete annual training and follow procedural requirements for role.
• On call seven days a week for emergencies only. Rotating on-call weekends.
• Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor related to the organization’s mission, goals and operations.
• Perform any other duties related to the organization’s missions, goals and operations.
Experience and Expertise
• High school education or equivalent, with a minimum of two years’ experience in building maintenance.
• General knowledge of proper use and storage of power tools; such as saws, drills, air tools, etc.
• Must have strong mechanical background and independent abilities in electrical, carpentry, and plumbing.
• Must have valid driver’s license, safe driving record, automobile insurance.
• Ability to sufficiently pass Agency-required background check
Competency Requirements
• Demonstrated experience providing maintenance support in a large building and home environment.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Great customer service skills, team collaboration, and quality improvement skills.
• Knowledge of safe equipment operation, and safe and proper use of tools is essential.
• Ability to work independently and/or alongside third-party vendors or contractors, as needed.
• Knowledge and understanding of IDD work and industry is preferred.
Requirements:Incumbent must have the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position with reasonable accommodation Except in unique circumstances, employees complete work in-person at their designated job site. Office settings may include direct interaction with students, participants, and team members. Work may be completed inside or outside, under all weather conditions. Work may extend into public school and/or community settings, requiring travel and transport between locations. Incumbent must have valid driver’s license, safe driving record, automobile insurance. Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, lift heavy objects, stand, sit for long periods of time and able to perform physically all that is required to complete essential functions of this role, with the ability to lift 100 pounds or more.
