Job Description
Under the direction of the Human Resources Manager, plans, develops and enhances the health, safety, ergonomic and environmental functions within the division. The Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist is expected to inspire and lead their teams by setting the example and driving the 5 C’s (Care, Commit, Connect, Communicate, & Celebrate)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops, implements and maintains policies, procedures, programs and databases related to health, safety, ergonomic and environmental practices and requirements.
- Ensures all federal, state and local safety and environmental laws/regulations and codes are observed.
- Drives improvements in the division’s safety and environmental performance through the use of audits, behavior-based safety, ergonomics and safety committee.
- Ensures all OSHA recordkeeping and ergonomic reporting requirements are met and within the required time frame.
- Chairs division’s Safety Committee meetings and Ergonomic Committee meetings and facilitates the resolution of open issues from these meetings
- Conducts Ergonomic Assessments including but not limited to ERA, RULA and strain indexes.
- Responds to and investigates all reports of injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses and property damage immediately.
- Administers first aid care to employees and performs First Responder duties during emergencies.
- Adheres to Magna’s Group Management Guidelines to achieve the principles of Magna’s Employee Charter.
- Ensures Company’s compliance to the Magna Employee’s Charter. Protects the interests of the employees and the Company in accordance with Company policies, Employee’s Charter Principles, and applicable employment laws and regulations.
- Oversees the administration of worker’s compensation claims, return-to-work initiatives and accommodation issues.
- If there is a reason to believe that any equipment or physical condition of the workplace is likely to endanger the employee or co-worker, notify management immediately.
- Stays abreast of and ensures the division complies with all formalized regulation (OSHA, MIOSHA, ANSI, NFPA, EPA, EGLE, Magna Corporate)
- Coordinate the Joint Health and Safety Committee and ensure that health and safety concerns are addressed in a timely manner and communicated to employees.
- Coordinate the Ergonomics Committee and ensure that ergonomic concerns are addressed in a timely manner and communicated to employees.
- Adheres to company systems and policies (IATF 16949, 5S, employee handbook).
- Develop and implement all department policies and standards that pertain to Magna EHS requirements.
- Participates in the investigation of accidents including: determination of the underlying occurrence, identifying the need for corrective and/or preventive action, recommending solutions for improvement, tracking and recording corrective actions to closure.
- Organizes and participates in workplace inspections to validate compliance to company systems & policies.
- Recommends the purchase of new equipment to assure manufacturing maintainability, and Health, Safety & Environmental requirements are met.
- Manage all aspects of LM’s health & safety audit, environmental audit and ergonomic audit, including all action items, training requirements, records and policy development and implementation.

- Work collaboratively with all departments.
- Displays a positive attitude towards safety, works safely and follows all the Company's safety policies and procedures.
- Reports all unsafe and unhealthy conditions or acts to management immediately.
- Reports injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses and property damage immediately to your Supervisor
- Complies with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards in accordance with company policies, the Occupational Health & Safety Act. and the Michigan Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Ensures all employees and visitors have a safe environment in that safety and housekeeping standards are maintained; and all hazards, unsafe actions, or unsafe conditions have been identified, corrected, and/or eliminated.
- Responds to and investigates all reports of injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses and property damage immediately.
- Report on all issues that cause any downtime to operations to your supervisor.
- Takes an active part in the division’s safety program by performing regular workplace inspections, effectively investigates accidents/incidents promptly, and assists in meeting or exceeding the division’s safety goals.
- Complete other duties as assigned.

If there is any reason to believe that any equipment, physical condition of the workplace or assigned task is likely to jeopardize customer’s requirements, internal requirements or the quality of tests results and/or equipment build, notify management immediately. Authorities as detailed in our Quality System for ISO/TS16949 2014 including but not limited to Corrective and Preventative Actions, Control of Documents, Control of Records, Internal Audits and Control of Nonconforming Product.
Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification/Licensure:
Bachelors Degree in Safety, Ergonomics, Industrial Hygiene or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of two (2) year of safety, ergonomic and environmental experience in a manufacturing environment.
OSHA 10 Certificate (preferred)
OSHA 30 Certificate (a plus)
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of HSE tools and methods :, 5 why methodology, job instruction, audits, ISO 14001, ISO 45001…
- Working knowledge of OSHA, MIOSHA, ANSI, NFPA, EPA, EGLE, DOT
- General knowledge of automotive production plant technologies
- Hands on environmental experience
- Minimum bi-lingual (English required)
- Working Knowledge of environmental, health and safety systems
- Strong communication skills: verbal, written, and technical presentations.
- Proficient with utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, and database applications
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to successfully complete multiple tasks within established and changing deadlines.
- Demonstrated successful performance with independent problem solving
- Innovation and change management skills

Familiarity with ADA, FMLA and HIPPA. Working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Work performed in an office and manufacturing plant environments. Normal mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. Frequently exposed to varying temperature within plant depending upon external weather condition. Frequently sits, walks, stands, grips/grasps, bends/stoops, crouches; and lifts and carries up to thirty (30) lbs within the office and manufacturing plant environment. Must be available to work overtime including weekends and holidays.
