ATLANTICARE _____________________________________________ROLE DESCRIPTION TITLE: Clinical Manager Hospital JOB CODE: 159 EXEMPT: X NON-EXEMPT: DATE: 11/99 REVISED: 2/20, 7/22 (Q), 7/23 (T), 11/23 (T) 7/25 (Q), 01/26 (C) 03/26(Q), 04/26 (Q) 05/26(Q) POSITION SUMMARY The Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM) is a front-line nursing leader responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based patient-centered care while advancing performance across key quality and operational metrics. This role blends clinical expertise, leadership, and data analytics to drive measurable improvements in patient outcomes, regulatory compliance, and organizational goals. The CNM leads the unit in achieving excellence in quality, safety, patient experience, and operational efficiency. The Clinical Manager supervises staff in their daily activities to ensure the delivery of care according to established departmental policies and procedures. This position assists the Clinical Director with resolving staff issues, participating in performance reviews, monitoring budgetary practices, preparing staff schedules, developing and implementing performance improvement activities and orienting new employees to the unit. The Clinical Manager serves as a key communicator for organizational updates, policy changes and education needs. This position establishes and maintains communication with physicians and other professionals to promote mutual understanding of problems and plans of care. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: * Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required * Bachelor's degree in Nursing required. * Master's degree is required within 3 years of hire or transfer. Current incumbents in Clinical Manager Role must enroll in a Master's program by September 2026 and completion by 12/31/29. o Current incumbents in Psychiatry (PIP and 1 Pines) are required to enroll in a Master's program by January 1, 2027 and complete by April 30, 2030. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: * Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or multi-state license. * American Heart Association BLS required. * Approved professional nursing certification required within 1 year of hire or transfer. Current incumbents must obtain within 1 year, by 2/1/2027. SPECIALITY / UNITS EXPERIENCE ADVANCED CERTIFICATION / REQUIREMENTS Emergency Room * Mainland * Satellite ED - Kessler 2-4 years medical/surgical experience required; 2 years emergency room experience preferred. PALS or ENPC required. ACLS preferred. Emergency Room City 2-4 years medical/surgical experience required; 2 years emergency room experience preferred. ATCN, and PALS or ENPC ACLS preferred. Labor and Delivery Obstetrics 2-4 years labor and delivery / OB experience required. NRP (NALS) and ACLS, required Neonatal Intensive Care Unit/Intermediate Care Unit 2-4 years neonatal Intensive Care Unit experience required. NRP (NALS), required Mother/Baby Unit 2-4 years mother/baby experience preferred. NRP (NALS) and ACLS, required Operating Room Minimum 1 year medical/surgical experience desired; 1-2 years operating room experience required. Crisis intervention experience preferred for PIP. Certified Prevention Intervention annual education preferred. Pediatrics 1-2 years medical/surgical experience required; 1-2 years pediatric experience strongly preferred. PALS required SPECIALITY EXPERIENCE ADVANCED CERTIFICATION / REQUIREMENTS Interventional Radiology (Radiology Specials) 2-4 years medical/surgical experience required; 1-2 interventional experience preferred. Critical Care experience preferred. ACLS preferred; PALS required within 1 yr of hire/transfer Cath Lab 1-2 years critical care, emergency room or telemetry experience required; 1 year cath-lab experience preferred. ACLS preferred. Trauma 2-4 years medical/surgical experience required; 1-2 years trauma experience preferred. ACLS preferred. Oncology 1 -2 years medical/surgical experience preferred. Chemotherapy experience preferred. Chemotherapy certification within 1 year from date of hire or transfer Cancer Center 3 years of clinical Oncology Specialty experience required. Chemotherapy certification within 1 year from date of hire or transfer Endoscopy Minimum 2 years medical/surgical experience required; 1-2 yrs. endoscopy, telemetry and critical care experience preferred. ACLS is preferred, CGRN preferred, CER (or CFER) preferred. Cardiac Diagnostic 1 -2 years medical/surgical experience required; 1-2 years critical care experience preferred. ACLS preferred Central Monitoring 1 -2 years medical/surgical experience required; 1-2 years critical care experience preferred. Advanced level of dysrhythmia interpretation required. ACLS preferred. Intensive Care Units * Cardiovascular ICU * Intensive Care Unit MLD * 3 Harmony- TICU/MICU 2-4 years critical care experience required. 2-4 years cardiovascular ICU experience preferred. ACLS and CCRN preferred Intermediate Care * 2 Meadow * HVU * 4 Harmony * 6 Harmony 2-5 years telemetry experience required. ACLS preferred. SPECIALITY EXPERIENCE ADVANCED CERTIFICATION / REQUIREMENTS Radiation Oncology 1-3 years oncology experience required. OCN preferred Surgical Services * PACU * SDS * Recovery Room * Operating Room 1-3 years critical care experience preferred. ACLS preferred; PALS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer. Pre-Admission Testing 1-3 years medical/surgical experience required. Prenatal, Perinatology and Family Planning * Maternal Fetal Medicine 2-4 years experience in Women's Health inpatient/outpatient experience required. Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification preferred. OB Certification preferred Practice Management 1-2 years medical/surgical experience preferred. Wound Care 2-3 years Wound Care experience required. WOCN required; ACLS required EXPERIENCE: Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience in acute care setting; 1-2 years of leadership experience or charge nurse experience required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as leadership skills required. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire. UNIT POPULATIONS SERVED Clinical Managers have knowledge of core competencies on the following patient population(s) serviced: Bariatric Morbid obese adult with all comorbid illness/conditions, including but not limited to: cardiac/cardiovascular, metabolic; renal, pulmonary, etc. Cath Lab Cardiac/vascular conditions and diseases including but not limited to: CAD, carotid stenosis, renal stenosis, PVD, etc. Critical Care Acute medical/surgical care of skeletal muscular, renal ortho conditions and diseases including but not limited to: AMI, CAD, PVD, CVA/TIA, COPD, CHF, shock, renal failure, metabolic disorders, etc. Behavioral Health Behavioral health illnesses including but not limited to bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, psychosis, etc.. Dialysis Patients with acute or chronic renal failure or chronic renal disease. Endoscopy Chronic pain management, endoscopic procedures of cardiovascular, GI, pulmonary conditions and disease, etc.. Emergency Department Triage, assess and treat patients of all age presenting for emergency care for all body systems, conditions and diseases including but not limited to: coronary, pulmonary, neuro, skeletal muscular, GI/metabolic, GU/renal, GYN, integumentary, etc.. Intermediate Care Monitored post-surgical care including but not limited to neuro, GI, GU/GYN, peripheral vascular interventions, orthopedic procedures, etc.. Medical diagnoses including but not limited to: cardiac, pulmonary, neuron, GI, VCA/TIA and renal conditions, etc.. Medical Surgical Medical/Surgical diagnoses including but not limited to orthopedic, neuron, GI, GU/GYN, renal, metabolic, pulmonary systems and those requiring isolation/precautions. Telemetry/Medical/Surgical Cardiac/cardiovascular, neuro, GI conditions and diseases including not limited to: CAD, PVD, COPD, CHF, metabolic disorders, etc. Telemetry/Stroke Cardiac/cardiovascular, neuron, renal, GI conditions and diseases including but not limited to: CAD, PVD, CVA/TIA, COPD, CHF, metabolic disorders, etc. Wound Care GI, GYN/GU, integumentary conditions and diseases including but not limited to all ostomy diversion surgeries, wound care, pressure sore/ulcer etc.. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Competency Validation Tool for this position. WORK ENVIRONMENT Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens along with infectious diseases. Physical demands include but are not limited to consideration stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing heavy equipment and excessive standing and walking. Lifting approximately 25-50 lbs. frequently; lifting 50-10 lbs. with assistance occasionally. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP This position reports to department leadership and supervises incumbents as assigned.
