Product Design Engineer at Weber Knapp Company – Jamestown, New York

Job Summary:

The product design engineer will design, build, and test new products. This position will support product implementation from concept to production launch. See weberknapp.com for product examples.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Uses computer-assisted design (CAD) software to create preliminary and detailed drawings of the product.
• Produces specifications for products and chooses raw materials and components to be used in production.
• Builds models and prototypes of the product and tests the design.
• Develops concepts and creates 3D models
• Presents concepts to customers
• Creates detailed prints
• Inspects prototype and initial production parts
• Works with Quality Control and Manufacturing Engineering in developing production processes
• Develops and documents product testing
• Supports Quality Control and Manufacturing Engineering on current products
• Provides technical support for the Sales Department

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency using 3D CAD Software, SolidWorks preferred.
• Must be able to read and interpret calipers, micrometers, and blueprints.
• Must have hands-on skills to assemble prototypes and do preliminary testing.
• Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
• Must work well independently and in a team environment.

Education and Experience:

• Associates Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
• Three or Five years of related experience preferred.
• Must be able to reliably commute or plan to relocate prior to starting.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
