Our Women's Shelter team is GROWING!! We are searching for Housing Support Specialists to join the team. If you are passionate about serving our most vulnerable, we can't wait to hear from you!


SCHEDULES - we are filing a variety of schedules. All schedules may include weekends and are subject to change to support program needs as appropriate.


ABOUT WOMEN'S HOUSING NAVIGATION
The shelter offers a safe and welcoming environment to women experiencing homelessness in Albuquerque. The center is open year-round and offers meals, a warm overnight bed, and secure under-bed storage. The shelter provides low barrier, trauma-informed case management, job searching and other supportive services. The team works to guide guests through a successful exit from shelter to safe, stable housing, and a plan for ongoing support.


HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT?
You will provide collaborative, intensive coordination with the female residents at the shelter. You will be overseeing resident activities, ensuring compliance with shelter policies, and providing support to individuals experiencing homelessness. You will provide comprehensive case management, assisting guests in developing and executing individualized plans to secure and maintain housing, and connecting them with community resources. As a Housing Support Specialist, you will offer support service strategies to clients who have a history of homelessness, mental health challenges and housing instability in an effort to gain access, and maintain health, mental health, housing and vocational stability.

WHAT MAKES YOU A GREAT HOUSING SUPPORT SPECIALIST?

  • Crisis Intervention: You recognize and manage crises effectively, providing immediate support to residents in distress.
  • Conflict Resolution: You are skilled in mediation and promoting peaceful coexistence in the shelter environment amongst residents.
  • Cultural Competency: You work with diverse populations, understanding and respecting various cultural backgrounds and experiences.
  • Community Resource Navigation: You have knowledge of local resources, services, and programs available to assist residents with housing, employment, and healthcare needs.
  • Safety and Compliance: You are familiar with health and safety regulations specific to shelter operations, ensuring a secure environment for residents.
  • Group Facilitation: You are skilled in organizing and leading group activities that promote social engagement and support among residents.
  • Trauma-informed: You understand the effects of trauma and mental health in an individual's life, creating a safe and non-judgmental environment for anyone seeking help.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • High school diploma or equivalent; In lieu of education equivalent experience in social services or related fields will also be considered
  • Certified Peer Support Worker preferred
  • Prior experience working in a shelter, community organization, or social service setting is a plus
  • Understanding of homelessness issues and familiarity with available community resources
  • Previous experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or in a supportive housing setting is highly desirable
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed
