About This Position
Department: Public WorksFT / PT: Part-Time (Non-Union Position)Salary: $18 per hour
Job Summary:Under direction of the Public Works Director, Supervisor, and Assistant Supervisor, this position performs the routine work involved in general maintenance of the Township's public buildings, required to make minor repairs and maintenance of the buildings. This is a part time position, no more than 20 hours per week.
Job Responsibilities: ● Repairing doors, locks, hinges and windows as needed ● Performing minor patching, glazing, painting and caulking ● Maintaining walk areas by sweeping, shoveling and clearing ● Repairing and replacing light fixtures, outlets, fuses, plugs and cords ● Removing trash and completing other custodial work ● Moving tables, chairs, equipment and other items ● General plumbing repairs and maintenance ● Other assignments are assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: ● At least one year of experience in the maintenance and repair of building facilities ● Ability to read and write orders and directions ● Good verbal and written communication skills - ability to communicate with peers, supervisors, and/or vendors ● Knowledge of proper procedures used in making routine repairs and skillful use of tools and equipment ● Possess the ability to understand, remember and carry out oral and written directions ● Ability to learn quickly from oral and written demonstration ● Ability to work independently and as part of a team as needed ● Ability to work for long periods in emergency situations and remain on the job until all repairs have been made ● Ability to operate and skillfully use specialized tools and equipment
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: ● Hold construction, electrical, and/or plumbing license
Education, Certifications and Licenses:
● Minimum education of a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required ● Experience in manual work and a proven level of dependability
Physical Requirements:
● The physical demands must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position ● Must be physically capable of working outside in all weather conditions and on all terrains ● Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions ● Ability to see and work at night in dimly lit conditions as necessary, during inclement weather ● Occasionally working near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places ● Ability to work at levels higher than ten feet ● Use of senses which include sight, smell, hearing and touch as aids in the evaluation and troubleshooting of malfunctioning equipment ● Ability to work in undesirable conditions, including small enclosed or partially enclosed areas, dust, dirt, fumes, odors, noise, wetness and humidity ● Ability to walk, stand, and sit for periods longer than 30 minutes but not to exceed 8 hours consecutively ● Ability to stand in a stationary position for more than 30 minutes at a time and walk continuously for more than 10 minutes at a time throughout the working day ● Ability to lift, carry, push and pull items which weigh up to 50 pounds over uneven terrain, up/down stairs or ladders ● Ability to carry items for a distance which ranges from 10 feet to no more than 300 yards ● Ability to lift and/or carry items which are considered awkward to grasp or hold on to ● Ability to lift items weighing 1 to 30 pounds for a period less than 10 minutes, without putting the item down ● Ability to stay in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position for periods less than 10 minutes ● Ability to go from a standing or sitting position to a bending, kneeling, or squatting position, or vice versa, periodically ● Ability to move back and forth and sideways while in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position
