About This Position
This is an unpaid internship.
The WIC Outreach intern supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of community-based health initiatives, with a focus on maternal and child health, nutrition, and health education. This role involves direct community engagement, administrative support, and data management to ensure the effective delivery and evaluation of health programs. The ideal candidate is community-oriented, detail-focused, and passionate about promoting health equity.
Illustrative Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of community health programs focused on maternal and child health, nutrition, and health education
- Support outreach efforts by preparing educational materials, attending community events, and engaging with families and community members
- Conduct basic data collection, entry, and analysis to support program evaluation and reporting
- Collaborate with team members and community partners to promote health equity and improve access to health resources
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions with clients and community members
- Provide administrative support such as scheduling, documentation, and communication with stakeholders as needed
Education/Experience: Currently pursuing or completed an associate or bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Health Education, Community Health, Social Work, or a related field. Coursework or experience in maternal & child health, nutrition, or public health
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Understanding of community health, maternal and child health, nutrition, and health education. Awareness of factors affecting health disparities and strategies to promote equitable access to care. Familiarity with local health and social service organizations and how to connect individuals to appropriate resources. Basic knowledge of data gathering methods, entry, and interpretation for program monitoring and reporting. Strong verbal and written communication for engaging with diverse community members and stakeholders. Ability to build trust and rapport with families, community partners, and team members.
Time Commitment: 10-20 hours/week
