Outpatient Orthopedic Physical and Occupational Therapy Summer Clinical Intern in Fort Wayne, Indiana at Parkview Health

This full-time clinical internship is designed to support our outpatient orthopedic physical and hand therapy teams. The primary goal of the position is to enhance the quality of care delivered to patients by contributing to process improvement initiatives, creating educational resources for both patients and clinicians, and assisting with administrative tasks to help frontline providers dedicate more time to direct patient care. Key responsibilities include collaborating with therapists to develop patient and provider education materials, improving operational efficiency (such as room turnover and patient flow), conducting chart audits for compliance, and offering general administrative support.

We are seeking a motivated candidate with strong interpersonal and organizational skills, who thrives in a collaborative team environment. Ideal candidates are proactive, eager to learn, and willing to engage in a wide range of tasks, including research, education development, and clinical operations support. The position offers a flexible 40-hour schedule within clinic hours: Monday through Thursday from 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM, and Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

This opportunity is well-suited for students in fields related to rehabilitation therapy—including physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), speech therapy (ST), exercise physiology, athletic training (ATC), physical therapist assistant (PTA), and certified occupational therapy assistant (COTA)—as well as other healthcare disciplines that collaborate with rehab professionals, such as medicine (MD), physician assistant studies (PA), nursing (RN), respiratory therapy (RT), and dietetics.

Must meet one of the following requirements current CNA EMT or Paramedic certification or must take Parkviews Patient Care Foundations course at time of hire 2 years’ experience in a healthcare related field training time will be determined based on experience currently enrolled in nursing school having completed first clinical rotations if hired prior to 12/3/18 two (2) years military medical experience will be accepted. Must have current CPR at or above the Healthcare Provider level from the American Heart Association or obtain within 60 days of hire. CNA/EMT/Paramedic certification preferred or must have the equivalent of health care experience and education two (2) years previous experience in a nursing support role OR a nursing student currently enrolled in an accredited program (ASN or BSN) having completed their first clinical rotation on an extended care or inpatient nursing unit (nursing school transcripts required). Acceptable accrediting agencies are Commission on Collegiate Education in Nursing (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). If assigned to the Parkview Randallia Family Birthing Center must be bonded as a notary public within 6 months of hire. Previous experience is preferred in direct patient care through work and/or school program. Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Must have a working knowledge of computer skills and applications. Demonstrates ability to critically think. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and assist with 100 pounds.
