About This Position

Job Title: Certified Medication Aide

Department: Nova Centre

Reports To: Director of Nursing

Classification: Full Time/Part Time; Non-Exempt

Salary Range: $16.00.

Job Objective: Responsible for medications, resident history information, current health assessment, and functions as the supervisory person over direct care staff for each shift. Work under general direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing and general direction on the QMRP for all programming issues.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible to stay current on all resident history information to include but not limited to medical history, allergies, past medications, past procedures, past nursing notes, past health evaluations, past Individual Health Plans (IHP’s)
  • Know every residents current health assessment.
  • Safely and accurately administer routine and non-routine medications to include but not limited to recording the administering of medication on the individual’s medication sheet, initialing after administering, observing resident during administration of medications, logging reasons and results of the usage of non-routine medication, signing the medication sheets.
  • Is aware of the actions, major side effects and normal dosage range prior to any administering of medication to any resident.
  • Recognizes possible untoward and/or allergic reactions to medications and notifies Director of Nursing immediately.
  • Records controlled drugs on the narcotic sheet at the time the drugs are removed from the locked area.
  • Obtains a licensed nurse to witness any wastes.
  • Signs 8 hour verifications sheet and releases keys at change of shift indication correct narcotic count.
  • Notifies the Director of Nursing who notifies the Nova Centre Administrator of any narcotic discrepancy.
  • Accurately and safely performs treatments ordered by the physician.

CMA Shift Supervisor Job Functions Include:

  • Communicate regularly with the Director of Nursing and the QMRP. Nursing issues must be directed to the Director of Nursing. Programming issues must be directed to the QMRP. It is recommended that all correspondence pertaining to nursing and programming be put in writing and placed with the Director of Nursing and/or QMRP. Attend weekly supervisory meetings.
  • Ensure completion of daily reports to include but not limited to incident reports, contact forms, staff absences, purchase requests, activity requests, illness reports and anything unusual.
  • Direct staff in case of an emergency.
  • Assign residential staff to resident groups, activity schedules, shower/bathing schedule.
  • Ensure that IHP’s are being worked on according to schedule and that goals/objectives are being documented according to implementation strategies.
  • In conjunction with the QMRP, pull past month’s data from documentation books and replace with current month data.
  • Contact the QMRP regarding any schedule changes, absent staff or situation that poses a problem. Follow up these situations by completing the necessary paperwork, i.e. Absentee Report, Contact form, etc.
  • Get approval in advance from the QMRP for any purchases by completing a Purchase Request.
  • Request money for outing/activities in advance to the QMRP by completing the proper form and follow up by returning all receipts to the QMRP.
  • Ensure that all staff interact with the residents with dignity and respect.
  • Do not participate in any conversation with staff, parents, or visitors on matter on confidential information. Direct questions of a confidential nature to the appropriate administrative staff, i.e. QMRP, Director of Nursing, Nova Centre Administrator, or Human Resources. Remind staff of their obligation to client confidentiality.
  • Encourage and uplift other staff member to help create a positive working environment.
  • All concerns should be documented in writing and submitted to the Director of Nursing and/or QMRP.
  • Ensure menus are being followed and check with dietary manager before making any changes.
  • Ensure proper sanitary conditions are being followed in the kitchen by staff and residents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

Supervise direct care staff (CNA) for assigned shift.

Education and/or Experience

High School education and must have completed competency training program approved by the state and hold current certified medication aide license.

Languages Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in on-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees or the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

Certified Medication Aide License

CPR/FA

Oklahoma Driver’s License

All DDSD and State Health Department required training

All training and licenses must be kept current

Performance of this job will be periodically evaluated by the Director of Nursing in accordance with the provisions of EARC’s policy on personnel evaluations.
