Description: Job Title: Purchasing Manager
Report To: General Manager & Plant Manager

Miyama USA Overview:

Miyama is a manufacturing business providing precision sub-assemblies, stamped products and other customized services to the automotive and U.S. appliance industries. Our specialties are value-added services that include robotic and projection welding, CNC Drill & Tap, and CNC Lathing operations. Assembly operations complete the cycle to include lever assembly, spin riveting / staking, testing of all kinds for fit and function, and packaging of Automotive and Appliance parts and their assemblies on a JIT and 100% on-time delivery basis. Been in business since 1989!

Position Summary:

The positions main objective is to monitor our raw material levels and issue Purchase Orders to keep our inventory at a quantity that is lean while also ensuring the production department has the materials they need to fulfill our customer orders! This person needs to be able to take the necessary steps to meet customer demand daily through purchasing and order fulfillment and everything in-between! This position will ultimately wear a lot of hats and have a hand in quality, production, and purchasing and order fulfillment!

Position Responsibilities:
  • Vendor Management, actively work with current vendors to reduce freight costs and improve lead-times
  • Manage numerous international suppliers ocean and air shipments with lead times up to 20 weeks and monitor the (Duties/Tariffs, Brokerage, Ocean/Air freight costs via M3 volume or Kg weight) costs as the importer of record
  • Manage and monitor inventory levels of international parts stored in an external local logistics company warehouse and arrange shipments to our site from that location!
  • Build strong and strategic relationships with all our many vendors both foreign and domestic!
  • Analyze historical sales trends to better forecasts future customer orders so that waste can be reduced and inventory levels optimized!
  • Monitor, set, adjust, and manage safety stock levels and lead times for the component parts we require to build our products for our customers
  • Managing our day to day purchasing activities for direct (raw) materials and verify and control our Finished Good shipments being shipped to our customers while trying to meet established KPI’s and goals
  • Develop and compute metrics for gauging inventory level needs (min/max levels) and put strategies in place to maintain those levels consistently.
  • Track and monitor supplier performance and work with the Quality Department to track their performance as suppliers and deal with Non-conforming Product returns and tracking
  • We are ISO 9001:2015 certified, so being in line with keeping that certification through proper tracking and traceability of our material purchasing and Finished Good quality
Getting to be part of our company’s biggest project in its history, the full implementation of an advanced ERP system called Global Shop Solutions

We went live with Global Shop Solutions ERP in June 2022 and lots of work is still left! This software is bringing huge benefits to our company including shop floor data centers, Advanced Production Scheduling, MRP, Quality Module, PM’s, CRM, and bar coding, bin/lot tracking, everything all in one system! This position will be able to learn this software from the beginning with everyone else and grow and become an expert on it! Our success implementing this software will depend highly on how well this person makes use of and takes advantage of the features of the software!

Position Requirements:
  • College Degree required, preferably in Business, Supply Chain Management, or Industrial Engineering or similar
  • At least 3 years’ experience in Materials Planning, Supply Chain Management, or Purchasing/Buying, or Shipping and Receiving / Logistics
  • Excellent communication skills are a must as well as planning and time management skills
  • Highly competent with computers and the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, Power Point, and Excel in particular). V-lookups and Pivot Table ability is a must! VBA experience a plus as well as Macro familiarity and Tableau or Power BI experience/familiarity is a bonus skill
  • Prior experience in the manufacturing industry is preferred, or direct experience in supply chain management or a similar related field
  • This person will have multiple direct reports as well as other indirect reports, floor Supervisors, and Department Leads.
Physical Requirements:

Required to walk, use hands, use tools, or controls, balance, stoop, kneel, climb, must be able to lift 40 lbs, reach and use hands and arms, drive a forklift on occasion, unload trucks.

Work Environment:

This position must be able to work in an office setting, but also in a warehouse and production setting. The job requires going out to the shop floor to do cycle counts, verify parts and shipments, help with shipping or receiving parts at times, enduring moderate to high levels of noise, heat, cold, and dirt! The shop floor has varying temperatures from cold in the winter to hot in the summer.

Requirements:

Job Type: Full-time, 7am – 4pm Monday thru Friday

Salary: $65,000 to $75,000 /year
