Job Overview

We’re looking for a personable, organized, and motivated leader to run the day-to-day operations of our Sylvan Learning Center.

The ideal Center Director is someone who genuinely enjoys working with people, knows how to build relationships, and is comfortable having sales conversations with families. You should be able to make parents feel welcomed and understood, keep a busy center organized, lead a team, and take ownership of results.

You do not need to come from an education background. Experience working with children or families is a plus, but some of the skills we value most come from sales, customer service, hospitality, retail management, admissions, healthcare, or other service-oriented businesses.

This is a hands-on leadership position. We’re looking for someone who can learn independently, use good judgment, solve problems, and operate with minimal supervision.

Duties

As Center Director, you’ll take ownership of the overall customer experience, sales, staff, and daily operation of the center.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Welcome families and create a friendly, professional environment.
• Speak with prospective parents to understand their child's needs and recommend appropriate Sylvan programs.
• Follow up with leads and help turn inquiries into enrollments.
• Build strong relationships with current parents and ensure they feel informed and supported.
• Manage the day-to-day operation of the center.
• Coordinate student and staff schedules.
• Lead, support, coach, and hold team members accountable.
• Help recruit and onboard new tutors as needed.
• Monitor enrollment, retention, sales activity, and center performance.
• Identify opportunities to grow the center and improve the customer experience.
• Participate in local marketing, community outreach, school relationships, and events.
• Resolve customer concerns professionally and patiently.
• Maintain accurate records and complete administrative responsibilities.
• Learn and use Sylvan systems, technology, and operating procedures.
• Work independently and proactively identify issues before they become problems.

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Customer service and relationship-building experience.
• Sales experience or demonstrated ability to influence and guide customer decisions.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable learning new technology and business systems.
• Leadership, supervisory, or management experience preferred.
• Experience working around children or families is a plus.
• Education or tutoring experience is helpful but not required.
• Ability to remain patient, professional, and solution-oriented in a fast-moving environment.
