Job Description

Chief of Staff

Location: 3425 S Clarkson St, Englewood, CO 80113.

Schedule: M-F 8-5PM (in-person).

Salary: $176,571.20-$198,640/yr.

Application Deadline: Posted until filled.

Position Summary: The Chief of Staff helps the President and CEO and the executive team work more effectively by strengthening preparation, decision-making, coordination, and follow-through. The role serves as a trusted advisor to the President and CEO and helps coordinate work across executive leaders without directing them or taking over their responsibilities. Working closely with the Executive Assistant, the Chief of Staff focuses on substantive issues and decisions rather than calendar, logistics, and administrative support.

Position Requirements:

  • Licensure/Certification/Registrations:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience required.
  • Experience: At least seven years of progressively responsible experience supporting senior executive leadership, Board governance, executive operations, or similarly complex senior-level work required. Demonstrated experience working directly with a President and CEO or comparably senior executive, coordinating sensitive or multi-executive matters, and influencing senior leaders without formal authority required. Prior Chief of Staff title is not required. Direct experience with Board governance, executive or Board-level materials, and senior-level meeting preparation required. Healthcare or mission-driven nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
  • Skills & Abilities: Exceptional writing, synthesis, facilitation, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to turn complex issues into concise choices and recommendations. Strong judgment, discretion, emotional maturity, and demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and sensitive information reliably.

Essential Functions:

CEO Decision Support and Preparation
  • The Chief of Staff ensures the President and CEO is prepared to address consequential issues with the context, analysis, and choices needed for sound decisions.
  • Maintains a forward-looking view of decisions, meetings, commitments, and emerging issues that require President and CEO attention.
  • Develops concise briefings that clarify context, options, tradeoffs, risks, recommendations, and the decision or action needed.
  • Provides candid perspective and helps the President and CEO test assumptions, anticipate implications, and distinguish urgent matters from important ones.
  • Identifies issues requiring clarification, escalation, or communication and brings them forward early

Executive Team Effectiveness and Follow-Through

  • The Chief of Staff helps the executive team use its collective time well, make decisions with the right information, and maintain momentum on shared commitments. The role supports executive leaders without directing their work or displacing their authority and accountability.
  • Shapes agendas and preparation for President and CEO-led executive and senior leadership meetings so discussions are focused on clear outcomes, decisions, and next steps.
  • Works with executive leaders to ensure materials are concise, timely, and structured for effective discussion and decision-making.
  • Captures decisions, ownership, timing, and dependencies and maintains visibility to shared commitments.
  • Surfaces cross-functional barriers or unresolved questions that require collective discussion or President and CEO attention, while keeping accountability with the responsible executive.
Board Governance and CEO Briefing
  • The Chief of Staff supports effective Board governance by coordinating substantive preparation and ensuring the President and CEO and executive leaders are ready for Board-level discussion and decisions.
  • Coordinates the Board and committee governance calendar, agenda development, substantive materials, and leadership preparation.
  • Prepares the President and CEO for Board and committee meetings, Board leadership conversations, retreats, and governance discussions.
  • Leads the planning and development of major Board gatherings, including the annual retreat, in partnership with the President and CEO, Executive Assistant, and relevant leaders. This includes shaping objectives, agendas, content, presenters, materials, and the overall flow of the gathering.
  • Works with executive and senior leaders to ensure Board materials are concise, accurate, timely, and appropriate for Board-level discussion.
  • Tracks Board questions, commitments, and follow-up so responses are assigned, clear, and timely.
CEO-Directed Special Assignments
  • At the President and CEO’s direction, the Chief of Staff may support a small number of defined, time-limited assignments that fall outside routine departmental work or require coordination across several areas. The Chief of Staff helps organize the work but does not assume authority for the subject matter or the responsibilities of the leaders involved.
  • Confirms the assignment’s purpose, scope, participants, timing, expected outcome, and the leader accountable for decisions.
  • Organizes meetings, information, and follow-up so the responsible leaders can move the assignment forward.
  • Keeps the President and CEO informed of progress and brings forward only those questions or barriers that require the President and CEO’s decision or intervention.
  • Concludes the coordination role when the assignment is complete or transitions it to the appropriate executive or department for ongoing ownership.
