Job Description
Reports to the Director of Pharmacy Services. Coordinates and plans operational work as it relates to various departments within Pharmacy Services. Provides support, instruction, evaluation and acts as a resource for team members as needed.

Supervises daily operations to ensure work is performed according to established policies and procedures, and as approved and/or directed by the Director and/or Managers as appropriate by:
- Evaluating the quality of service provided by department team members, documenting and making appropriate suggestions for disciplinary action, when necessary, to assure quality patient care is provided.
- Assisting with clinical issues and acting as a resource person for team members.
- Creates and manages the schedule, operations, and work activities of designated staff within the department, also reestablishing priorities and reassigning work as necessary.
- Assisting with interviewing, orienting and evaluating performance of staff, communicating expectations and recommending corrective action when necessary.
- Identifying ongoing training needs of staff and ensuring that each individual receives regular in-service training and education appropriate for the duties performed to support pharmacy leadership.
- Planning, organizing and overseeing programs for cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
- Establishing a quality control program in conjunction with department leadership.
- Monitoring the operations quality control program, resolving technical problems and ensuring that all necessary remedial actions are taken and documented for process improvement.
- Assisting with cost analysis of equipment, leases and service agreements.
- Discussing, researching and recommending new procedures as technology advances and methods change.
- Implementing new procedures with the approval of the department Director and Manager.
- Ensuring employees perform duties using safe work techniques and procedures in accordance with OSHA, State and Federal regulations and Hospital policies and procedures.
- Investigating and reporting to Manager/Director incidents involving patients, employees or visitors.
- Maintaining good rapport and cooperative relationships, approaching conflict in a constructive manner, and helping to identify problems, offering solutions, and participating in their resolution.
Manages resources by:
- Assisting with department team member scheduling and shift assignments in accordance with patient care and staff capability.
- Monitoring overtime and low census/voluntary leave on responsible shift.
- Maintain Departmental staffing based on productivity goals.
- Ensuring all supplies and equipment are available and meet the needs of the units.
- Assisting with the development and implementation of new or revised policies and procedures for the department, as needed.
- Communicating problems or concerns with regards to patient care.
Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:
- Completing other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
- Supporting team members with their assignments as needed.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR), and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education/Qualifications:
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an associate degree from an accredited school. Minimum of three years of supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.

- Demonstrates the ability to coordinate necessary supportive operations for clinical staff.
- Demonstrates leadership skills needed to elicit cooperation and support from others, to interact tactfully with co-workers, superiors, patients and other hospital team members, and the ability to coordinate a variety of activities and establish priorities.
- Requires knowledge of pharmacy operations in order to communicate changes in procedure to ensure compliance. Demonstrates the analytical and organizational skills to plan, implement and evaluate ongoing needs of the departments.
- Demonstrates the interpersonal skills and communication skills including presentation skills. Demonstrates the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships.
- Requires well-developed computer skills and the ability to effectively use the internet.
Working Conditions
- Works in a controlled environment.
- Requires extensive walking (65%+ of shift).
- Occasional exposure to potentially hazardous substances.
- Extensive keyboarding is required.
- Must be able to be effective in a fast-paced, quality-focused, multi-priority environment that frequently deals with constant distractions, stressful situations and important deadlines and schedules.
- May need to vary days and hours scheduled, including working evenings and/or additional hours, as determined by the department's needs.
Physical Demands
- Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e., to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/supplies/equipment up to 50 pounds, to lift supplies and equipment at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
