Job Description
Position Summary
As a Director, responsibilities include overseeing and making final technical decisions across various trades, managing the work order system, and leading the health system's preventive maintenance program. This role will have expanded responsibilities across related functions such as facility expansions, renovations, efficiency upgrades, need projections and cost estimating for repairs and the rollout of new service lines. Additional responsibilities include:
Essential duties & responsibilities
- Serves as the senior project lead for all facility related projects, including oversight of work orders, maintenance staff, contractors, budgets, equipment, and supplies while ensuring effective communication with stakeholders.
- Provides strategic direction on technical decisions across a wide range of trades, including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, electronics, masonry, welding, painting, and mechanics, while also making determinations in paraprofessional engineering and related functions.
- Manages procurement, inventory, and stock control processes for tools, parts, and supplies, ensuring operational efficiency.
- Acts as the key advisor to senior management regarding the technical aspects of facility maintenance, equipment replacement, and renovation decisions, including determining whether work is performed in house or contracted externally.
- Develops and implements policies related to facility operations; conducts regular reviews and updates policies to reflect new industry standards and organization changes.
- Leads, supervises, and evaluates the performance of staff, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities, as well as the successful completion of tasks within established deadlines.
- Oversees professional development, training, and adherence to policies and procedures among maintenance staff, implementing corrective measures when necessary.
- Plans and manages daily and weekly work schedules, setting priorities in line with longer term organizational objectives.
- Oversees recruitment, screening, and hiring processes for vacant positions, ensuring a high standard of talent acquisition.
- Administers and manages budgetary line items related to maintenance and repair activities, developing estimates, prioritizing needs, and making recommendations for equipment, materials, and other budgetary components.
- Ensures accurate tracking and monitoring of performance through relevant databases to support efficient operational management.
Qualifications
- Associates Degree in industrial maintenance technology, mechanical engineering or related field.
- Licensure in a building or mechanical trade such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or construction specialties, preferred.
- Minimum of five years progressive experience in facility maintenance.
- Consideration will be given for any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
- Thorough knowledge of repair, maintenance and construction techniques and of the tools, methods, practices, materials and equipment used in the building and mechanical trades.
- Working knowledge of building codes, environmental rules and all other rules and regulations governing repair, maintenance and construction of facilities.
- Must have a working knowledge of JCAHO standards and facility regulations.
- Two years hospital experience in engineering department in management/ supervision, preferred.
