Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Nurse Practitioner provides primary health care, health education and health promotion in a rural health clinic setting to patients of all ages. Participates in an on-call rotation with other clinic providers as needed. Works within the scope of practice as defined by the Washington State regulations for advanced practice nursing.

PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:

Responsibilities

Patient Care

Provides direct patient care to patients on an on-going basis within the limits of professional license.

Follows established medical protocols.

Participates with Medical Director in a periodic review of the client health records and treatment plans.

Accurately maintains patient records via dictation and/or written documentation.

Makes appropriate and timely referrals to other health care providers when a specialist or emergency care is needed.

Provides patient education and counseling regarding health and wellness.

Team & Community Responsibilities

Interprets the role of the clinic to clients, other providers, and the community.

Maintains professional relationships with the medical community and referral base.

Attends & participates in Clinic Staff Meetings in addition to Medical Staff Meetings and hospital system meetings as appropriate or requested.

Assists in coordination of services with clinic personnel to ensure effective delivery and continuity of care.

Other Responsibilities

Collaborates with clinic leadership for (a) identifying and addressing practice issues/concern, (b) appropriate public relations/community projects/education and (c) providing commitment as a role model for AIDET, WH values and Standards of Behavior.

Takes responsibility for personal and professional growth and development.

Complies with regulatory requirements.

Supports the clinic’s vision, mission values and objectives, and honors the position in the community as a spokesperson for the community.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Completion of an accredited master’s program for a Certified Nurse Midwife or Certified Nurse Midwife / Nurse Practitioner program. Current licensure in Washington State required.

Training and Experience

  • A minimum of three years in a primary practice preferred.
  • Maintains compliance with WAC requirements for continuing education.
  • Must demonstrate current clinical skills, including integration of information collected in the health history, physical exam, and diagnostic tests into defined problem areas.
  • Must have well developed communication skills, and independent decision making skills.
  • Must possess working knowledge of the growth and development of children, abide by HIPAA regulations for the protection of patient confidentiality, and be diligent regarding proper and legal documentation. Must have knowledge of health care delivery and reimbursement systems. Must be able to perform the essential function of the job.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Active WA State RN & NP License required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Current ACLS certification required.
  • Active Board Certification by a nationally accredited agency.
Benefit Information and Wage Transparancy: WhidbeyHealth Employees who work a 0.5 FTE or higher are categorized as, “benefit eligible”.

Wage Range: $130,000 - $140,000 (Call Compensation)
