About This Position

Position Summary
- The Emergency Department Director is responsible for providing leadership, with 24-hour accountability for the department. They are an integral member of the self-directed leadership team that is committed to fulfilling the mission, vision, and goals of Cass Health. This position is responsible and accountable for directing the functions of professional nursing practice in the assigned department. They develop and monitor appropriate quality and continuous improvement indicators utilizing Evidence-Based Care. The ED Director also manages the department's operations, including human resources, budget, finance, strategic planning, legal compliance, regulatory compliance, patient engagement, and employee satisfaction. They provide professional, technical, and clinical expertise to the department.

EDUCATION:

Required:
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing

Preferred:
- Masters Degree in Nursing or related field

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Required:
- Valid Iowa Nursing license or from a reciprocating state
- BLS, ACLS, TNCC, & PALS
- NRP within one year of hire
- Valid Drivers License

Preferred:
- Certification by accredited body in area of most experience

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

- 5 years RN experience

Preferred:
- 2 years ED experience
- 2 years in a leadership role

Essential Job Functions
- Develops departmental performance improvement goals and indicators, communicates quarterly to the Quality Council and staff, and appropriate actions are ensured.
- Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth and development, for self and staff.
- Maintains accountability for the quality of care/results and services within the department(s) as perceived by patients, families, physicians, peers and colleagues.
- Evaluates employees in accordance with job description and performance expectations. Holds staff accountable to standards of behavior.
- Counsels and disciplines employees using policies/procedures outlined in the personnel policies.
- Fosters collaborative relationships with patients, families, physicians, staff and other departments to achieve patient care goals.
- Monitors appropriateness of care delivery, assures patient care standards are maintained and met, monitored through patient satisfaction scores.
- Demonstrates ability to function in an accurate and precise manner in crisis and emergent situations.
- Ensures outstanding customer service is provided to all patients, families, visitors and team members.
- Promotes/markets the health system and its services throughout the community, through involvement in community and health system events. Actively participate in marketing strategies.
