Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation (BBAHC) is a tribal health organization that represents 28 tribes throughout the region, which is approximately 35,000 square miles.

BBAHC is comprised of four subregions, each distinct in history, culture, natural resources, and community priorities. The regions include: Nushagak River & Bay Central, Southern, Western, and Kvichak Bay & North Side Peninsula. BBAHC manages the Bristol Bay Service Unit for the Indian Health Service and has done so since 1980. The main campus of the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation is in Dillingham, which is located at the confluence of the Nushagak and Wood River systems and is a regional hub of the Bristol Bay salmon fishing district.

BBAHC operates the Kanakanak Hospital along with 21 Village Clinics, all of which are HRSA (Health Resources and Services Administration) Clinics. Clinical services include: Pharmacy, Medical Imaging, Laboratory, Dental, Optometry, Audiology, and Physical Therapy. The Kanakanak Campus also includes a residential treatment facility and a behavorial health counseling center. BBAHC is Joint Commission Accredited and upholds high standards for quality patient care.

About the Role:

The Deputy Director QA QI Pharmacist plays a critical leadership role in overseeing and enhancing the quality assurance and quality improvement processes within pharmaceutical services. This position ensures that all pharmacy operations comply with regulatory standards and internal policies to promote patient safety and optimal therapeutic outcomes. The role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and monitor quality initiatives that drive continuous improvement in medication management and clinical pharmacy practices. The Deputy Director will also provide expert guidance on medication use policies, risk management, and performance metrics to support organizational goals. Ultimately, this position is pivotal in fostering a culture of excellence and accountability in pharmaceutical care across the healthcare system.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Licensed Pharmacist in the United States with an active and unrestricted license, willing to obtain Alaska licensure withing one (1) year of hire.
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (B.S. Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care to include inpatient medication reconciliation, medication therapy management and drug utilization review.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state pharmacy laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives within healthcare settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree or certification in healthcare quality, such as Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).
  • Experience working in an in- patient healthcare system or hospital environment.
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools and software used for quality measurement and reporting.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • 5 years of experience in pharmacy practice with at least 3 years in quality assurance or quality improvement roles.
  • Knowledge of medication safety technologies and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate quality assurance and quality improvement activities related to pharmacy services, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and organizational regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures that promote safe and effective medication use.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders to identify areas for improvement and implement evidence-based interventions.
  • Oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting related to pharmacy quality metrics and patient safety indicators.
  • Provide training, mentorship, and support to pharmacy staff to enhance their understanding and adherence to quality standards.
  • Participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes to align pharmacy quality initiatives with organizational objectives.
  • Manage risk assessment and mitigation strategies related to medication errors and adverse drug events.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on quality assurance and improvement in pharmacy practice during audits and inspections.
