Job Summary

Part of a multi-functional engineering team that applies mechanical engineering subject matter expertise for the development and production of a ground-based avionics mechanical work products. This includes process alignment with the requirements of DO-254 (hardware design requirements for ground-based avionics systems) and DO-160 (environmental verification requirements for ground-based avionics systems.)

Essential Job Functions

Establish, maintain and control both allocated and derived requirements for specific mechanical design initiatives.

Conduct formal analysis of alternative solutions and present the selected optimal approach to meet the requirements.

Perform detailed mechanical design in accordance with established standard operating procedures and applicable industry regulations.

Employee modeling and simulation tools to ensure predictable outcomes.

Create detailed design documentation that is aligned with established configuration management policies and procedures.

Work with production and product support by enacting concurrent engineering practices.

Procure materials and construct prototype assemblies early in the development process.

Perform the verification planning, generate verification procedures and conduct verification test of all mechanical designs to assure requirements compliance.

Support production and quality assurance activities, including participation in configuration control board (CCB) and material review board (MRB) for the disposition of non-conforming product.

Conducting peer reviews of other engineers.

Sources and verifies components for bills of materials.

Education and Work Experience Requirements

Mechanical Engineering degree

Experience in design and development of electro-mechanical devices with embedded software

Knowledge of IPC 610 and 620 standards

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

3-5 years experience as a Mechanical Engineer

Experience with Solidworks

Experience in DO-160 and DO-254
