Hourly Wage Range : $26.00 - $28.00 per hour
Position Overview
The Financial Aid Specialist II is a member of the Financial Aid and Scholarships unit within the division of Enrollment Management and Marketing. Financial Aid specialists work closely with the entire financial aid staff, as well as all key stakeholders within the Antioch community to coordinate, execute and maintain optimal and efficient systems management and student aid processing in compliance with applicable statutory and regulatory guidance governing aid programs, specifically Title IV.
Essential Job Functions
- Responsible for timely error resolution and tracking of Federal Direct Loans and Federal Pell Grants
- Conducts verification of student application data in compliance with federal requirements
- Conducts conflicting information resolution by collecting, reviewing and documenting information from financial aid applicants
- Conducts need analysis in compliance with federal regulations to determine financial aid applicant eligibility
- Determines financial aid eligibility through the packaging process according to federal, state and institutional requirements, monitors individual student awards, and resolves data conflicts and over awards.
- Originates student loan applications in compliance with federal regulations to ensure accurate and efficient disbursement of student loan funds.
- Coordinates with the Student Accounts office on timely disbursement and booking of federal grants and loans including timely resolution of disbursement issues and communicates resolution to key stakeholders
- Updates student information system as needed for special courses for student enrollment
- Monitors changes in student registration and adjust students awards appropriately
- Conducts initial review of Special Circumstance appeals and provides recommendation to the Assistant Director of Operations
- Supports Assistant Director of Operations with research and document collection re: external and internal audits and DOE student case resolution
- Participates in training new FA staff on standard procedures, and financial aid fundamentals
- Participates in activities between Financial Aid, Bursars, Admissions, and Student Affairs to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and policies
- Troubleshoot problems as they arise and recommend and carry out appropriate resolutions
- Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations
- Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Financial Aid Operations
Qualifications
- Associates degree required, or the equivalent combination of education and experience, Bachelors preferred
- 2 to 3 years relevant work experience required
- Experience in Microsoft Office Products
- Ability to analyze, interpret and present data
- Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Possess strong customer service and creative thinking skills
- Ability to multitask to meet multiple, competing deadlines and with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Ability to assess and provide recommendations for additional assistance
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend assignments as necessary
- Ability to relate to a diverse community
Hours of Employment
This is a full-time position serving a national university. A work schedule will be established in consultation with the supervisor.
Work Location
The employee will be assigned hybrid/remote work in consultation with the supervisor.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to sit, stand, use hands and fingers, and talk or hear. This is an active position, involving walking, climbing, lifting, stooping, and bending in the accomplishment of duties. Must be able to lift in excess of 25 pounds. Must be able to work occasionally in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain or snow.
