If a current Med Center Health employee is interested in becoming a Medical Assistant, Med Center Health has partnered with Southcentral Kentucky Community & Technical College (SKYCTC) Workforce Solutions to create an on-the-job training program called the Medical Assistant Academy.

Medical Assistant Academy Program Summary
The Medical Assistant Academy is a workforce development program at Med Center Health (MCH) offered periodically for current MCH employees without a Medical Assistant license to receive paid on-the-job training and begin working in an available full-time Medical Assistant position at a MCH physician practice location.
This program is offered as an alternative to an official Medical Assistant certification program obtained from a school. Through the Medical Assistant Academy, individuals are taught the information and skills needed to qualify for the job and to meet the requirements of the position. However, they will not earn an official certification.
Minimum Qualifications
- Active employment with Med Center Health required.
- Strong attendance and performance in current position preferred.
- Working at MCH for at least 6 months preferred.
- Previous patient care, clinical, or lab-related experience preferred (can include job shadowing experience).
Selected MCH employees participating in the Medical Assistant Academy will:
- Begin in a full-time Medical Assistant In-Training position during the program.
- Complete a total of 40 hours training each week (length of program will vary depending on the program schedule).
- Attend scheduled in-person classes with SKYCTC Workforce Solutions at the SKYCTC Bowling Green campus.
- Complete a 2-week clinical externship at the MCH Primary Care Scottsville.
- Complete a Medical Terminology online course (if they haven’t already taken an equivalent course elsewhere).
- Work full-time at MCH in an available Medical Assistant position for a minimum of 1-year.
