Nurse Practitioner, Day Shift, Anesthesia Presurgical Evaluation Clinic (APEC)


Powers Health is hiring for a part-time Nurse Practitioner to work days for APEC at Community Hospital in Munster, IN.

The Community Hospital Dept of Anesthesiology is full service under the direction of a Board Certified Anesthesiologist. The model used within the department is based upon a team approach, whereby anesthesia services within the operating room and in off-site areas may be provided solely by an anesthesiologist or by a CRNA under the supervision of an anesthesiologist. The department also receives support from anesthesia techs, surgical nurses, respiratory therapists, and clerical staff.

The Anesthesia Presurgical Evaluation Clinic provides support to anesthesia and surgical services by ensuring patients are optimized for surgery.

NP Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Works under the supervision and in collaboration with the Medical Director for Anesthesiology, Pain and Perioperative Services, or his designee.
  • Provides the appropriate care to the perioperative patient.
  • Works collaboratively with the supervising R.N. of the APEC clinic and other APEC nurse practitioners to advise the APEC nursing staff in matters related to perioperative anesthesia and medical care of the surgical patient.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must have successfully completed an accredited program for a clinical nurse specialist or nurse practitioner with a minimum of a master’s degree of nursing; license to practice in the State of Indiana with 2 years current experience in critical care preferred.
  • Documentation of prescriptive authority granted by the State of Indiana and a valid controlled substance certification must be on file in the Medical Staff Services Department prior to ordering of medications.
  • Must successfully complete credentialing and privileging process before functioning as an advanced practice nurse.
  • Demonstration of completion of an advanced physical assessment class.
  • Successful completion of the Hospital Personnel and Nursing Orientation Programs.
  • Completes continuing education as required by certification and governing bodies.
  • Obtains and maintains current CPR certification.
  • Computer literacy with familiarity of Windows and data base management.
