Within the Nutrition Department, Feeding Northeast Florida is advancing innovative programs that integrate food access with healthcare delivery. Our Prescriptive Nutrition Program connects food-insecure patients with nutrition care and medically supportive food through partnerships with clinics, community organizations, and food pantry networks. This work is part of the growing national Food is Medicine movement recognizing that food plays a critical role in health and chronic disease prevention.
This role offers a unique opportunity for a Registered Dietitian to improve health outcomes both at the individual patient level and across the broader communities we serve throughout Northeast Florida. Successful candidates understand that food insecurity and nutrition-related disease are influenced by social and economic factors and are motivated to help remove barriers that prevent individuals and families from accessing healthy food and nutrition care. Position Summary:
The Community Nutrition Clinical Program Manager, RDN provides clinical and operational leadership for Feeding Northeast Florida’s Prescriptive Nutrition Program. This position combines direct patient care with program management to ensure the effective delivery and continued growth of nutrition services within healthcare and community settings.
The Prescriptive Nutrition Program has already been piloted successfully and foundational systems and partnerships are in place. This role will focus on refining and strengthening those systems while supporting program expansion and increasing patient access to care. The Program Manager supervises and mentors a Registered Dietitian, helps manage growing patient volume as clinic partnerships expand, and ensures that referral workflows, telehealth services, data collection, and clinical operations function efficiently as the program scales.
This role is ideal for a Registered Dietitian who is comfortable practicing outside of traditional clinical environments and who brings adaptability, curiosity, and a strong growth mindset to community-based nutrition care.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Care and Program Delivery
- Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and nutrition counseling to patients referred through healthcare and community partners.
- Deliver nutrition services in a variety of settings including clinics, food pantries, community sites, and telehealth platforms.
- Ensure consistent and high-quality application of the Nutrition Care Process across patient interactions.
Program Operations and Growth
- Oversee day-to-day clinical operations of the Prescriptive Nutrition Program.
- Help manage increasing patient volume as healthcare partnerships expand.
- Support implementation and refinement of telehealth nutrition services to improve program reach and accessibility.
- Assist in developing and refining Prescriptive Nutrition protocols, workflows, and standard operating procedures.
Referral and Data Systems
- Maintain oversight of referral workflows and coordination with healthcare partners.
- Ensure accurate documentation, data collection, and reporting related to patient participation and program outcomes.
- Collaborate with internal teams and evaluation partners to support program monitoring and continuous improvement.
Staff Leadership and Mentorship
- Supervise and mentor one Registered Dietitian supporting the program.
- Provide clinical guidance and professional development support to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Occasionally support learning opportunities for dietetic interns or students participating in community-based experiences.
Partner Collaboration
- Work closely with healthcare partners to coordinate patient referrals and nutrition services.
- Collaborate with internal teams across nutrition programs, food distribution, and partner engagement to align services and resources.
Job Qualifications
Required
- Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential in good standing.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience as a Registered Dietitian.
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing or coordinating programs, initiatives, or projects within a nonprofit, healthcare, or community-based setting.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with food-insecure or medically underserved populations.
- Demonstrated experience providing Medical Nutrition Therapy and patient-centered nutrition counseling.
- Experience mentoring or supervising staff, trainees, or students.
- Strong organizational and program management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- High emotional intelligence and collaborative problem-solving ability.
Preferred
- Experience working in community health, food systems, or Food is Medicine programs.
- Familiarity with referral-based care models and interdisciplinary healthcare partnerships.
- Experience supporting program evaluation, outcome tracking, or data reporting.
- Experience working in food banks, food access programs, or other community-based food systems.
Competencies:
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills. Ability to work with diverse populations, including low-income families, community partners, etc. Demonstrated growth mindset and tolerance for ambiguity balanced by customer service and creative problem-solving skillsets.
- Strong written and verbal presentation skills. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Comfortable with public speaking.
- Self-directed with superior organizational skills. Detail oriented. Self-motivated. Dependable. Ability to work independently and as a team managing multiple competing priorities simultaneously.
- Previous management experience and demonstrated ability to lead staff in achieving goals.
- This role requires a dietitian who is comfortable practicing outside of traditional clinical environments and who enjoys working at the intersection of healthcare, community programs, and food systems.
Work Environment:
This position operates in a dynamic, mission-driven nonprofit environment. Work will occur in both office and community-based settings including healthcare clinics, partner agencies, and food distribution sites throughout Feeding Northeast Florida’s service area. Regular travel within the region is required.
Semi-flexible daily schedule: 40 hours a week or more as needed. Most work will occur during business hours Monday through Friday, 8 am – 5pm. Weekend and evening work may be required, as necessary to support program activities. A food bank is a warehouse environment; offices experience occasional exposure to environmental effects of operations.
Physical Demands:
Work can involve any of the following: prolonged periods of sitting and computer work, virtual and in person meetings, and occasional assistance with distribution of food which can involve extended periods of standing, lifting up to 50 pounds and exposure to the outdoors.
