About This Position

The trauma injury prevention coordinator supports, coordinates, and participates in the development of trauma education and injury prevention activities within the hospital and community. The trauma injury prevention coordinator participates in designing, planning and implementing formal and informal education programs based on community and hospital needs; along with data found in the trauma registry.

Requirements:

  • 3 to 5 years Directly related
  • Bachelors Degree
  • RN license ‑ NH or other Compact State
  • ACLS, PALS
  • Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) instructor within 1 year of hire
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred

Responsibilities:

1. Develops, implements, and manages the trauma performance improvement (PI) program in alignment with American College of Surgeons (ACS) standards; conducts primary and secondary case reviews, monitors adherence to clinical protocols and audit filters, identifies opportunities for improvement, and ensures loop closure to optimize patient outcomes.
2. Maintains accurate trauma registry data and PI documentation; prepares reports, meeting minutes, and quality metrics; identifies deficiencies impacting trauma center verification status; and supports ACS verification/re‑verification processes.
3. Collaborates with the Trauma Medical Director, Trauma Program leadership, and multidisciplinary teams to review care delivery, address system issues, support trauma resuscitations, monitor transfers, and provide feedback to internal and external providers, including EMS and referring facilities.
4. Assists in the development and maintenance of trauma protocols; supports staff education and competency initiatives (e.g., ATLS, TNCC); serves as a clinical resource for trauma care; and contributes to interdisciplinary education and performance improvement initiatives across the continuum of care.
5. Participates in planning, organizing, and implementing prevention programs. Participates in identifying needs based on the community need, and high risk injury patterns observed in the trauma registry. Collaborates with community leaders and established injury prevention programs to optimize opportunities‑ ie MADD, SAFE, Click it or Ticket
6. Expected to and is accountable for providing safe patient care by demonstrating organizational skills that maintain and coordinate safe delivery of quality care for assigned patients/families. This is completed by performing systematic assessments, delivering applicable care, and evaluating the effectiveness. Establishes professional relationship with nurses, physicians and other colleagues and patients and families.
7. Educates the patient and family about the patients illness and treatment including preventative measures appropriate to the patient.Supports commitment to community based activities.
8. Supports the development of others and creates a practice climate of responsiveness and learning based on Benner's Novice to Expert skills acquisition model. This supports the retention and recruitment of clinically competent nurses. The ability to lead and influence the reasoning of colleagues in the patient's best interest depends on skillful comportment, authoritative clinical knowledge and wisdom, the conviction to act as an ethical agent despite adverse consequences, and the ability to listen and enhance others.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
