About This Position
POSITION SUMMARY
The Field Engineer provides on-site engineering and technical support for the construction and commissioning of utility-scale solar and energy storage projects. This role ensures all activities align with project plans, specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements. The Field Engineer collaborates closely with project management, contractors, and cross-functional teams to support timely, safe, and high-quality project execution.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Engineering Support
- Oversee day-to-day engineering activities on construction sites.
- Coordinate and support electrical, mechanical, and civil construction teams to ensure projects meet specifications, timelines, and budgets.
- Troubleshoot and resolve engineering and construction issues promptly to minimize downtime.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Conduct site inspections and audits to confirm work meets design specifications and quality standards.
- Review design documents, shop drawings, and submittals for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- Ensure adherence to all safety, regulatory, and environmental guidelines.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of project progress, technical issues, and solutions implemented.
- Prepare and submit regular status reports, including updates on engineering progress, delays, or design changes.
- Assist with preparation of as-built drawings and final project documentation.
Coordination & Communication
- Serve as a primary point of contact among project management, engineering teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Support scheduling and coordination of field personnel and subcontractors to ensure proper resource allocation.
- Provide technical guidance and training to personnel and subcontractors as needed.
Commissioning & Testing
- Support commissioning and systems testing to confirm components are fully operational.
- Verify system performance and troubleshoot operational issues during start-up and handover phases.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance project quality.
- Contribute to best practices, lessons learned, and safety protocol development.

Requirements:REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- 4+ years of experience in engineering or field operations, preferably in renewable energy (solar or energy storage).
- Strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, or civil construction practices, with emphasis on renewable energy systems.
- Familiarity with project management tools, construction schedules, and quality control procedures.
- Proficiency in reading technical drawings, schematics, and engineering software.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills in high-pressure environments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and clients.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with renewable energy project commissioning and startup
- Knowledge of NEC and other industry electrical codes
- Experience with utility-scale solar and energy storage systems.
- Professional certifications (e.g., PE, LEED, PMP) are a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / JOB CONDITIONS
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent travel to project sites with extended stays may be required.
