Position Overview
The Mechanic Technician 1 is responsible for supporting the inspection, preventive maintenance, and repair of a wide range of operating equipment and vehicles at Capitol Aggregates plant locations. This role is primarily shop-based but may require work to be performed in plant environments as needed. Equipment serviced includes heavy and light automotive equipment, earth-moving machinery, internal combustion engines (gas and diesel), air compressors, pumps, vac trucks, sweepers, golf carts, and other support equipment.
What You'll Do
- Perform maintenance and repairs on trucks, vehicles, and equipment, completing both major and minor work as assigned.
- Respond to routine service calls on both on-road and off-road equipment.
- Perform maintenance and preventive maintenance on heavy equipment such as loaders, bulldozers, off-highway trucks, and skid steers.
- Perform welding, fabrication, and basic machine work.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and rebuild equipment systems as directed.
- Maintain clean equipment, shop areas, and workspaces daily.
- Follow all related and established company, plant, and safety regulations.

What You'll Bring
Education, Skills, Abilities and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree in Diesel Mechanics highly desired but not required.
- Must have a valid and clean driver's license.
- Must be proficient with computers.
- Must have proficient knowledge of and ability to use software to diagnose and repair component systems.
- Must be able to operate a truck-mounted crane.
- Ability to provide own basic tools.
Other Qualifications
- Demonstrated aptitude for learning complex mechanical trade skills.
- Proven ability to operate a service truck in and around heavy traffic.
- Ability to provide timely customer service at all plants or locations.
- Must be flexible in work schedules and start times.
- Must have good analytical and troubleshooting skills.
