What You’ll Do

As a Critical Care Transport Nurse, you will report to the Director of Mobile Patient Care and Transport. You will perform nursing evaluations and procedures approved by the Medical Director and provide a safe and clean environment for patient care. You will participate in patient transport.

Critical Care Transport Job Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, restock, and arrange repair of equipment to ensure safety.
  • Actively participate in the Ground Transport team and perform assigned duties.
  • Evaluate accident scenes, triage patients, provide advanced life support, and collaborate with medical personnel.
  • Lift, carry, and transport necessary patient care equipment.
  • Assess patients, gather medical history, and observe environmental factors.
  • Administer oxygen and assist with ventilation using appropriate equipment.
  • Perform basic and advanced life support interventions, including intubation, defibrillation, CPR, cardioversion, cricothyrotomy, IV/IO access, and other resuscitative maneuvers per guidelines.
  • Care for patients with a wide range of medical conditions, including trauma, respiratory, cardiac, neurological, infectious, and metabolic emergencies.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members, families, and personnel from other hospitals or agencies.
  • Measure and record patient vitals, intake/output, and clinical parameters.
  • Document assessments, care provided, and patient responses accurately.
  • Administer medications as approved by the Medical Director.
  • Assist other healthcare providers as needed.
  • Provide follow-up to requesting agencies while adhering to HIPAA.
  • Expedite ambulance return to service.
  • Attend educational programs, skill validations, in-services, meetings, and conferences; participate in program development and quality improvement.
  • Stay current with professional literature and complete mandatory education, competencies, and employee health requirements on time.
  • Adhere to universal precautions, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Work additional shifts or overtime as required.
  • Complete other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

What You Bring

As a Critical Care Transport Nurse, this position demands high-level nursing knowledge and competency in assessments, procedures, and treatments, strict adherence to sterile techniques and universal precautions, strong interpersonal and public relations skills, effective verbal and written communication, organizational ability, and the capacity to work independently. The nurse must demonstrate commitment to Memorial Hospital and Beacon Health System’s mission and values, physical stamina, mental resilience in critical situations, and the ability to operate a motor vehicle and Beacon Ambulance.

Required Qualifications

  • The above level of knowledge, skills and abilities are normally acquired through the successful completion of an accredited program of nursing education and maintenance of an Indiana and Michigan registered nursing license.
  • Three (3) years of emergency department or critical care nursing experience is required; three (3) contiguous years of current emergency, critical care, or transport medical experience is preferred.
  • This role requires maintaining current certifications in CPR, ACLS, PALS, NRP, STABLE, PHTLS, TNCC, and Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC), with TNCC required within one year and PALS within six months of employment.
  • Additional certifications such as CCRN, CPN, ENPC, ATCN, and TPATC are highly recommended, and within two years, the nurse is expected to obtain Certified Transport Nurse (CTRN or Pediatric equivalent) or Certified Flight Nurse (CFRN) status
