About This Position

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
Plan, prioritize, and review the work of staff assigned to a variety of help desk support duties.
Develop schedules and methods to accomplish assignment ensuring work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
Provide and coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
Participate in evaluating the activities of staff, recommending improvements and modifications.
Research and evaluate new advances in personal computer hardware and software; develop recommendations for management review that are in accordance with department goals and objectives.
Troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance on personal computer hardware, software, printer, and network related problems; resolve issues related to communications, GIS map/data maintenance, or web page maintenance.
Coordinate and oversee projects involving desktop and related equipment and system deployment.
Assist in the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, upgrades, and administration of LAN/WAN.
Monitor the overall performance of the network operating systems and communications software; resolve problems, as required.
Diagnose and resolve problems regarding hardware, applications, network connectivity, and operating systems; dispatch service to provide advanced level support, as necessary.
Maintain and track new computer, hardware inventory; maintain database of information technology related inventory.
Receive, enter, and track end user problem and resolution; ensure problems are resolves in a timely manner; prepare status report of completed service items.
Provide City-wide training for hardware, software, and/or applications.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
Observe and maintain a safe working environment in compliance with established safety programs and procedures.

Principles and practices of technical and functional supervision and training.
Basic principles of project management.
Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) concepts, terminology, and operating systems.
Principles and techniques of computer systems analysis and programming.
Principles of information systems security.
Computers, information systems, Internet technologies, and applicable to specialized concepts related to Systems, Help Desk, GIS, or Web.
Concepts of GIS, Global Positioning Systems, automated mapping systems, and database management.
Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, rules, and regulations.
Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Ability to:
Provide technical and functional supervision over assigned staff; effectively train staff.
Perform the most complex duties related to troubleshooting, configuring, performing repairs, and installing computer and server hardware/software.
Effectively manage assigned projects.
Use initiative and sound, independent judgment within established guidelines.
Prioritize work and coordinate several activities simultaneously.
Work with vendors to resolve application issues.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

High School diploma or GED equivalency.
License or Certificate:
Possession of Microsoft certifications are desirable.
Additional Requirements:
Incumbents must be able to pass a P.O.S.T. level background investigation prior to appointment for clearance to work on Police Department Information Systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a typical temperature-controlled office environment subject to typical office noise and environment. Some positions may be assigned to remote locations. Positions may require occasional overtime or weekend work and travel is rare.
