Overview
Responsible for the supervision of all DDG 51 Planning Yard On-Site Support Representatives (OSR) located in Norfolk, VA. Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the Waterfront Design Supervisor ensures compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while coordinating with other key stakeholders to meet overall milestones.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Leadership:
- Communicate and execute superior safety practices in multiple industrial environments.
- Project Execution:
- Attend daily/weekly availability production/progress meetings with On-Site team.
- Develop scope, estimates, manning requirements, and schedule coordination for availability support, ship checks, and design work in each of the On-Site offices.
- Planning Yard Management:
- Act as primary point of contact for availability issues.
- Assign Planning Yard design personnel that perform on-site availability support, ship checks, and design tasks.
- Review and approve CFR/ LAR responses developed by the On-Site design team.
- Training and Development:
- Conduct and or participate in interviews for new employee candidates.
- Assist with the onboarding of new employees.
- Team Collaboration and Communication:
- Assist manager with executing business operating system.
- Act as primary point of contact for support of Planning Yard Engineering and Design Teams in Maine.
- Work with US Navy, NAVSEA, and BIW PY to provide waterfront support as needed.
- Host and attend musters daily with team and with leadership.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Participate in GD BIW Operational Performance Improvement Plan (OPIP).
- Complete root cause analyses and A3 routinely to improve GD BIW PY.
Responsibilities
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Business, Marine Design or related field.
- This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance. You must be a US Citizen for consideration and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire. Qualifications
- Previous supervisory experience required, minimum 3-5 years.
- Knowledge of CNO availability modernization and relevant stakeholders (PMS-421, NAVWAR, NAVSEA, NAVAIR, TYCOM, MARMC, and other regional maintenance centers).
- Strong knowledge of DDG-51 Class design preferred.
- Strong knowledge of multiple design disciplines.
- Strong knowledge of design scheduling, budgeting, and progressing processes.
- Experience with design development in Autocad.
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of Navy standard items preferred.
- Knowledge of Planning Yard processes and procedures preferred.
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple competing assignments required.
- Must enjoy a dynamic, high churn, rapid response environment
- Proven team player
- This position requires US Navy shipboard visits during maintenance availabilities that require Personal Protective Equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, ear plugs, etc.).
- Physical activities may include walking, bending, stooping, climbing, carrying, and/or reaching.
- This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance.
