Reports To: Director of SustainabilityCategory: Year-Round, ExemptPosition SummaryThe Safety and Sustainability Manager is responsible for year-round oversight, implementation, and continuous improvement of Icy Strait Point’s safety and sustainability programs. This role provides leadership across all ISP operations, ensures regulatory compliance, manages seasonal staff, and supports long-term safety, environmental stewardship, and operational performance.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSafety & Risk ManagementPromote a workplace free of injury and ill health by enforcing policies and fostering a strong culture of health and safetyImplement, maintain, and continuously improve ISP’s safety and sustainability programsEnsure compliance with OSHA, USCG, state, and local safety regulationsSupport regulatory readiness and inspectionsOversee incident reporting, investigations, trend analysis, and corrective actionsLead safety audits, inspections, and risk assessmentsCoordinate emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response effortsAdvise leadership on risk mitigation strategies and operational safety improvementsAssist employees with workers’ compensation processes and clinic visitsProvide safety training to employees, including OSHA compliance and procedural trainingServe as ISP’s in-house Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor (preferred)Maintain EMT license (preferred) and assist with or lead emergency response related to ISP operations, including medevacsSupport development of emergency operational procedures for on- and off-site tours and general site operationsServe as liaison between ISP and Hoonah EMSEnsure safety supplies are stocked and safety equipment is maintained in good working conditionPromptly notify the Director of Sustainability of identified safety or compliance deficienciesMaintain confidentiality of employee health information and other sensitive information obtained through job dutiesSustainability & Environmental ProgramsOversee year-round sustainability initiatives, including waste diversion, recycling, and compostingTrack, analyze, and report sustainability performance metricsSupport sustainability certifications, cruise line requirements, and alignment with company valuesDevelop and coordinate environmental compliance and stewardship initiativesIdentify and explore new opportunities to further integrate sustainable practices at Icy Strait PointLeadership & SupervisionRecruit, train, and supervise seasonal Safety and Sustainability TechniciansCollaborate with department managers and directors to integrate safety and sustainability into daily operationsServe as ISP’s primary on-site point of contact for safety and environmental mattersSupport planning, reporting, training development, program improvements, and creation of standard operating proceduresCommunicate safety and sustainability policy updates to department leadershipPhysical Requirements & Work EnvironmentAbility to work in both indoor and outdoor environmentsComfortable working in variable weather conditionsAbility to respond to emergency situations, including walking uneven terrain and standing for extended periodsQualificationsBachelor’s degree in safety, environmental science, sustainability, public health, or a related field preferredFive (5) or more years of experience in safety management, environmental management, or operationsStrong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management systemsExcellent verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to train, influence, and engage diverse audiencesCurrent Red Cross Instructor certification or ability to obtain (preferred)EMT certification preferredBasic computer proficiencyIcy Strait Point and Huna Totem Corporation are committed to providing employment opportunities to Shareholders and descendants of Huna Totem Corporation.
