Senior Software Engineer

About the Organization
Now is a great time to join Redhorse Corporation. We are a solution-driven company delivering data insights and technology solutions to customers with missions critical to U.S. national interests. We’re looking for thoughtful, skilled professionals who thrive as trusted partners building technology-agnostic solutions and want to apply their talents supporting customers with difficult and important mission sets.

About the Role
Redhorse transforms the way government uses data and technology. To support this mission, we are seeking a Senior Software Systems Engineer who will serve as a recognized authority within the company. In this high-impact role, you will tackle unusually complex technical problems that require highly innovative solutions. You will be responsible for determining and pursuing the courses of action necessary to achieve critical mission results, bridging the gap between multidisciplinary research and the deployment of advanced software systems that define the future of government technology.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a recognized technical authority, providing innovative solutions to unusually complex software and systems problems.
  • Lead research in the design, development, testing, and utilization of electronic data processing software.
  • Design and develop applications and systems that integrate advanced logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Collaborate with equipment designers and hardware engineers to plan and utilize data processing systems for product and commercial software.
  • Determine computer user needs and analyze system capabilities to resolve problems regarding program intent, output requirements, and programming techniques.
  • Design and develop low-level system components, including compilers, assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
  • Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine design feasibility within strict time and cost constraints.
  • Confer with systems analysts, engineers, and programmers to manage project limitations, performance requirements, and interfaces.
  • Utilize scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of system designs.
  • Coordinate large-scale software system installations and monitor equipment functioning to ensure specifications are met.
  • Ensure all software standards are developed and maintained across the organization.
  • Independently determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired technical and project results.
Required Experience/Clearance
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with 10+ years of experience OR a Master’s degree with 8+ years of experience.
  • Proven experience as a recognized authority in software systems engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve unusually complex technical problems with highly innovative solutions.
  • Extensive experience with the full SDLC, including research, design, development, and debugging of mathematical systems.
  • Deep expertise in low-level systems programming, including compilers, assemblers, or operating system internals.
Desired Experience

We encourage all candidates who meet the basic requirements to apply, even if you do not have any of the following experience:

  • Experience with GitLab for version control and Jira for project management.
  • Familiarity with distributed data processing frameworks like Spark or DataBricks.
  • Knowledge of modern cloud architectures and containerization technologies.
  • Experience leading or mentoring other senior engineers on complex technical initiatives.
  • Prior experience supporting high-stakes government or DoD technology programs.
The salary range provided for this position represents the anticipated base salary for successful candidates. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, education, certifications, skills, security clearance level, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
