Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Cook prepares meals for our early childhood food program and snacks for our school age programs. Cook is responsible for kitchen hygiene, collaborates in meal planning. Prepares food and distribution to rooms, supervision of volunteers, record keeping and all kitchen operations. Cook ensures adherence to EEC food program guidelines, and all public health. USDA and ServSafe regulations regarding food storage and preparation.
REPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prepares nutritious meals and snacks for enrolled children; prepares substitute items for children on restricted diets.
2. Distributes food to the classrooms.
3. Practices safe food handling techniques in food preparation and storage.
4. Plans for and purchases all food and necessary supplies needed to provide food service.
5. Maintains verification of food and non-food purchases to meet child care program requirements.
6. Keeps a daily record of menus.
7. Obtains and retains manufacturers’ specifications for any commercially prepared food items used in the child care programs.
8. In collaboration with the Food Services Coordinator, develops weekly menus to meet USDA and EEC meal pattern requirements.
9. Maintains a safe and sanitary kitchen, pantry and storage areas; washes items used for food preparation.
10. Attends USDA, ServSafe conferences and other workshops as needed.
Requirements:Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, vendors and funding agency monitors.
Ability to maintain accurate written records and perform mathematical calculations accurately..
Knowledge of early childhood nutrition, and production cooking.
High school diploma or equivalent.
ServSafe certification is required.
Criminal record clearance
Ability to read, write and understand English
General understanding of the needs of children.
Part time position 7:30am-1pm
25- 30 hours per week
