Job Description

Job Summary:

The Food Safety Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the food safety and quality of products in production departments within the plant. This role has the overall accountability of ensuring the applicable food safety and quality programs are fully implemented and documented to ensure USDA regulatory compliance and the production of safe products. Apply all QA/FS policies and procedures in daily interactions with plant production and quality employees. Must provide leadership, guidance, training and improvement strategies to achieve company and department goals while adhering to compliance with USDA and FDA agencies. Adhere and uphold company department policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and guidance to technicians within the Food Safety -Quality Assurance Department and fosters team building and development.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Manage daily activities, in-depth training and development of the Food Safety and Quality staff members.
  • Manage and responsible for day-to-day activities for FSQA team to ensure and verify that all food safety and quality programs are implemented, requirements met and appropriate documentation completed.
  • Responsible for upholding FSQA, SQF, regulatory, company, quality and customer standards.
  • Communicate Programs to Floor Personnel, third party audits, regulatory, and customers.
  • Provide daily written reports to key stakeholders
  • Lead the internal SQF audit team and monthly reporting activities.
  • Implement and execute Food Safety Culture Week Activities.
  • Supervisor is responsible for completing the monthly SQF verification system audits, CAPA, and system reporting.
  • Complete routine program and specification review, which then develop or modify specifications based on product review, process changes, new products or customers.
  • Perform Other Projects, Validations, or testing as needed
  • Conduct Company Orientation and complete other company training as required
  • Other Job Duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of harvest and meat processing, preferred.
  • HACCP Certified, preferred
  • SQF Certified, preferred.
  • Ability to understand regulatory and SQF requirements
  • Experience or understanding of quality assurance principles and specifications
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and providing leadership.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout production areas.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, and access various areas of the facility for inspection and verification activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, including product samples, testing materials, and documentation.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements for sampling, testing, and documentation tasks.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hairnets, hard hats, smocks, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toe footwear.
  • Ability to respond promptly to food safety or quality concerns, including during off-shift hours if required.
  • Ability to walk up and down four (4) flights of stairs multiple times per day.

Work Environment

  • Pork processing/manufacturing facility.
  • Regular exposure to:
    • Cold, wet and extremely hot production areas.
    • Raw pork products and by-products.
    • Refrigerated and freezer environments.
    • High-temperature processing areas.
    • Mechanical equipment, moving conveyors, and industrial machinery.
    • Cleaning chemicals, sanitizers, and food safety testing materials.
    • Elevated noise levels and other industrial hazards.

Shift Information

  • Shift: Standard shift is - First 4:00 am to 2:30 pm
  • The position is expected to provide coverage outside the standard schedule, as needed.

Standard work week is M- F with Weekend Coverage as required
