The Early Head Start Teacher assumes primary responsibility for an Early Head Start classroom, ensuring the smooth operation and delivery of services to infants and toddlers while fostering positive relationships with families.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Oversee daily classroom operations to ensure efficient functioning and compliance with program requirements.
2. Assess each child’s developmental level and implement individualized learning strategies based on assessments.
3. Develop and implement lesson plans incorporating a variety of learning materials, activities, and experiences.
4. Engage parents in their child's education through training, volunteer opportunities, and active participation.
5. Maintain open communication with parents through home visits, conferences, calls, letters, newsletters, and other methods.
6. Support parents in understanding child development, behavior management, and available community resources.
7. Assist families in obtaining necessary community resources and services.
8. Address parental concerns and collaborate on problem-solving strategies.
9. Assist with meal preparation and clean-up, eating with the children to promote social skills.
10. Perform cleaning duties in the classroom and center as needed.
11. Train, monitor, evaluate, and supervise assigned staff members.
12. Collect and maintain required health information for each child.
13. Organize and participate in parent meetings and training sessions.
14. Recruit children for the Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
15. Attend and participate in meetings, training, and professional development at local, state, regional, and national levels.
16. Secure and document in-kind contributions and volunteer support.
17. Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, MCCAA policies, DHS Licensing Standards, and NAEYC Accreditation Standards.
18. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education & Experience Qualifications:

• Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field required preffered
  • A minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or comparable credential, and have been trained or have equivalent coursework in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development.
• Experience:
  • Previous experience working with children in a preschool setting preferred.
