Senior Reliability Engineer
Position Summary
The Senior Engineer provides advanced engineering and technical expertise in support of U.S. Navy programs, with an emphasis on reliability engineering, Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), systems engineering, maintenance analysis, and the development and modernization of engineering tools and processes.
This position applies engineering principles and analytical methods to evaluate equipment reliability, identify opportunities to improve maintenance strategies, reduce life-cycle costs, and improve the operational readiness and reliability of Navy systems. The Senior Engineer will work closely with government customers, program personnel, engineers, analysts, and software development teams to develop technical solutions, requirements, analyses, and recommendations.
The ideal candidate will have experience with Navy systems and maintenance programs, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to independently lead complex engineering studies and communicate technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, evaluate, and implement Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) programs and maintenance strategies in accordance with applicable Navy standards, including MIL-STD-3034 and related guidance.
- Perform reliability, maintainability, and failure analyses on mechanical, electrical, electronic, and/or integrated systems and components.
- Conduct engineering studies to evaluate equipment reliability, probability of failure, maintenance requirements, equipment life, and life-cycle costs.
- Analyze existing preventive and corrective maintenance requirements and develop recommendations to improve equipment reliability, reduce unnecessary maintenance, and increase operational readiness.
- Lead or facilitate technical reviews of Navy equipment and systems to identify maintenance improvements and opportunities for cost savings.
- Develop technical recommendations based on engineering analysis, reliability data, operational experience, and customer requirements.
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation, technical reports, system descriptions, process documentation, and other program deliverables.
- Develop, document, and evaluate system and software requirements for engineering tools and applications.
- Support the modernization, enhancement, and continued development of engineering and RCM-related software applications.
- Work with software development teams to translate engineering processes and customer needs into clear, testable system requirements.
- Develop and evaluate methods for measuring the reliability and effectiveness of online testing, training, examinations, and other engineering-related tools.
- Develop technical content and requirements for computer-based training and other online learning products supporting Navy RCM programs.
- Support the development, revision, and implementation of engineering standards, procedures, methodologies, and technical guidance.
- Research and interpret military standards, Navy policies, technical manuals, maintenance requirements, and other engineering documentation.
- Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of engineering data and prepare findings, conclusions, and recommendations for government customers.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing engineering processes, analytical methodologies, software tools, and maintenance practices.
- Present technical findings and recommendations to customers, program managers, engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers and analysts.
- Coordinate multiple engineering efforts and manage assigned tasks, schedules, and deliverables with limited supervision.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with government customers, contractors, technical personnel, and internal teams.
- Perform other related engineering duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of relevant engineering experience, preferably involving reliability engineering, systems engineering, maintenance engineering, or engineering analysis.
- Experience applying engineering principles to analyze system or equipment reliability, failure modes, maintenance requirements, or life-cycle costs.
- Experience developing technical documentation, requirements, analyses, and engineering recommendations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to independently plan and execute complex technical assignments.
- Ability to interpret technical standards, specifications, engineering documentation, and customer requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance, if required for the assigned program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting U.S. Navy, DoD, or other federal government programs.
- Experience with Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) and/or MIL-STD-3034.
- Experience with shipboard systems, submarine systems, shipboard equipment, or Navy maintenance programs.
- Experience performing reliability, maintainability, or failure analysis.
- Experience developing or evaluating preventive maintenance requirements.
- Experience with systems engineering and requirements development.
- Experience working with software development teams on engineering applications or tools.
- Experience developing technical training, computer-based training, or e-learning content.
- Experience with engineering standards development or revision.
- Experience with data analysis and statistical/reliability analysis tools.
- Experience working directly with government customers and technical stakeholders.
- Experience leading technical studies, reviews, or engineering projects.

- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a project-oriented environment.
Salary Range: $95,000 - $115,000
