Position Purpose: The VP of People Experience is a strategic leader responsible for developing and executing HR strategies that create a strength-based, high-performing, people-first culture at Sun Community Federal Credit Union. This role aligns HR initiatives with business objectives, ensuring employees have the support, resources, and development opportunities needed to thrive.

Serving as a strategic partner to leadership, the VP of People Experience oversees talent management, compensation and benefits, employee relations, engagement programs, and compliance. The role balances long-term HR strategy with hands-on leadership, ensuring that Sun Community’s workplace culture attracts, retains, and develops top talent.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Strategic HR Leadership

  • Develop and execute a long-term people strategy that supports business growth, employee engagement, and workplace culture transformation.
  • Partner with the CEO and executive team to implement HR programs that drive performance and align with business goals.
  • Act as the “Keeper of the Culture”, ensuring HR policies and initiatives support an engaged, and productive workforce.

Benefits Administration & Compliance

  • Oversee and manage benefits programs, including health insurance, 401k PEP plan, wellness programs, executive benefits, and voluntary benefits.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with benefits vendors, negotiating contracts and ensuring competitive offerings.
  • Ensure compliance with ACA (Affordable Care Act), FMLA, COBRA, ERISA, and other federal and state benefits regulations.
  • Oversee leave management, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers' compensation, and other leave programs, ensuring legal compliance and a positive employee experience.
  • Manage all worker’s compensation claims and cases.

Talent Management & Leadership Development

  • Lead succession planning and leadership development programs to build a strong internal talent pipeline.
  • Partner with managers to provide coaching, career development, and performance management guidance.
  • Oversee recruitment and onboarding processes.

Compensation, Performance Management & Workforce Analytics

  • Develop and manage compensation strategies

Position Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred.
  • 10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, or any combination of education and experience that equals such.
  • HR certification i.e. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or equivalent

Technical Skills

  • Strong strategic mindset with the ability to align HR initiatives with business goals.
  • Proven experience in organizational culture transformation and employee engagement strategies.
  • Deep knowledge of benefits administration, FMLA, ACA compliance, and leave management.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills.
  • High emotional intelligence (EQ) and ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in financial services, banking, or credit unions is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Occasional evening or weekend work to meet project deadlines.
  • Sitting for extended periods; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
  • Physically able to participate in meetings, presentations, and training sessions.
  • Some travel may be required between branches and business partners. [Optional]
