Job Description

SUMMARY:

As a Crew Chief I, you will be an integral part of Bryant Associates Land Survey Department in our Boston, MA office, where we provide our clients with a full range of surveying and mapping services.


The Crew Chief I, will execute and supervise other members on the survey crew in gathering field survey data and providing construction layout using conventional and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) methods. The position will entail review of real estate documents, including plans and records as well as construction plans in order to perform boundary, topographic, right-of-way, acquisition and construction stakeout surveys for utility, transportation and building projects.


RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other Duties May Be Assigned)

  • Complete site control, boundary reconnaissance, construction staking and topographic surveys
  • Perform 3D scanning, and other surveying services in support of engineering work
  • Review of maps, field notes, and exhibits; performing construction staking calculations for improvements and utilities
  • Support surveying and mapping activities for boundary surveys, topographic mapping and construction staking projects
  • Supervise crew members to complete daily survey assignments correctly and proficiently
  • Will have supervisory responsibilities for crew members and support staff including hiring, promoting, performance reviews, and training
  • Coordinate requirements of Resident Engineer and Construction Supervisor
  • Work in close collaboration with Project Surveyors
  • Effectively deal with difficult situations and confrontation both internally and externally
  • Assist in project deliverables as appropriate
  • Work independently as a one-person crew as required
  • Operate, daily, various surveying instruments
  • Daily uploading and downloading of data collectors
  • Manage survey equipment and supplies
  • Work in a safe manner and obey all safety regulations
  • Continually advance knowledge with upgrades in technology
  • Complete internal and external training as required

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Prior experience working on both civil/site and structural engineering and surveying projects
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct/ coach survey crew members on how to perform the aspects of their job they may not yet be skilled in
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and construction documents
  • Must be proficient with the use of survey equipment. (GPS, Robotics, Total Stations, Levels, Scanners, and Data Collectors)
  • Able to work independently with minimal oversight
  • Desire to work in a team environment
  • Must have strong supervisory skills
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Observes company and client safety requirements
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driving record check
  • Ability to pass a drug test

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years of survey experience required
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Supplemental courses in surveying a plus

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Required knowledge of Microsoft office software (Word, Excel etc.)
  • Knowledge in use of AutoCAD a plus


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES

Will supervise Instrument Operator(s)


TRAVEL:

Daily travel to and from various local/regional job sites will be required, occasional overnight travel, or night shift work may be required.
