Job Description
DEXA Scan Technologist (MHO)
Reports to the Supervisor of Breast Care Center. Performs Bone Density (DEXA) imaging procedures on patients.

Exam Performance
- Performs DEXA scans according to physician orders and department policies and procedures.
- Evaluates DEXA scan for technical quality to ensure accurate diagnosis.
- Assumes care for the physical and psychological needs of patients during exams.
- Obtains previous DEXA scans for comparison as needed.
- Ensures exams are properly charged for in the RIS.
Patient Data / Image Movement:
- Scans all pertinent documents into patient file in PACS, HIS, RIS.
- Tracks all procedures appropriately using the current RIS system.
- Ensures quality images are taken and delivered to the PACS system for radiologist interpretation.
Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:
- Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
Education and Experience
- The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an Associate’s Degree (or equivalent certificate) in Radiography or Mammography. . Breast Center experience as a tech or previous DEXA Scan experience is preferred. This may also be acquired by on-the-job training to perform DEXA Studies. CPR certification is required.

- Familiarity with DEXA equipment and procedure.
- Effectively communicates with patients and families.
- Fosters good relationships with all members of the patient care team.
Working Conditions
- Works in a hospital office and patient care environment.
Physical Demands
- Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged period so time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of position.
