DEXA Scan Technologist (MHO) in South Bend, Indiana at Beacon Health System

Reports to the Supervisor of Breast Care Center. Performs Bone Density (DEXA) imaging procedures on patients.

Exam Performance

• Performs DEXA scans according to physician orders and department policies and procedures.
• Evaluates DEXA scan for technical quality to ensure accurate diagnosis.
• Assumes care for the physical and psychological needs of patients during exams.
• Obtains previous DEXA scans for comparison as needed.
• Ensures exams are properly charged for in the RIS.

Patient Data / Image Movement:

• Scans all pertinent documents into patient file in PACS, HIS, RIS.
• Tracks all procedures appropriately using the current RIS system.
• Ensures quality images are taken and delivered to the PACS system for radiologist interpretation.

Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:

• Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

Education and Experience

• The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an Associate’s Degree (or equivalent certificate) in Radiography or Mammography. . Breast Center experience as a tech or previous DEXA Scan experience is preferred. This may also be acquired by on-the-job training to perform DEXA Studies. CPR certification is required.

• Works in a hospital office and patient care environment.

Physical Demands

• Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged period so time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of position.
