WAREHOUSE TEAM LEADER JOB DESCRIPTION

As IDL continues to accelerate growth in Canada, the Warehouse Team Leader role supports daily operational execution, frontline associate leadership, and consistent achievement of safety, quality, productivity, and service targets.

This job description applies to the Warehouse Team Leader position in Milton, Ontario. The role is an on-site, full-time position reporting to the Area Manager.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead a team of warehouse associates across picking, packing, shipping, receiving, and related warehouse functions.
  • Assign daily tasks and monitor workflow to meet productivity and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Drive performance through coaching, feedback, accountability, and follow-up.
  • Lead daily shift huddles and communicate key operational updates.
  • Lead daily shift briefings (Min 5) and participate in Min 15 meetings with the Area Manager.
  • Assess team capacity by considering workload, versatility, staffing, and shift balance.
  • Monitor attendance and staffing throughout the shift and ensure effective shift handover.

    • Performance and productivity management

  • Track and manage KPIs including units per hour (UPH), order accuracy, on-time shipping, and labour efficiency.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Amazon-style best practices.
  • Identify bottlenecks and optimize processes to improve throughput.
  • Support staffing and recruitment planning through operational input.
  • Anticipate operational risks by recommending continuous improvement actions.

    • Health and safety compliance

  • Enforce compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Promote a strong safety culture on the warehouse floor.
  • Conduct safety audits, incident reporting, and corrective actions.
  • Perform regular workplace and equipment audits with documented follow-up.
  • Ensure proper use of equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).

    • Employee engagement and relations

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance team environment.
  • Address employee concerns and resolve conflicts promptly.
  • Support attendance management and progressive discipline in line with company policy and Ontario regulations.
  • Recognize and reward strong performance.

    • Training and development

  • Train new hires on warehouse processes, systems, and safety standards.
  • Cross-train associates to ensure operational flexibility.
  • Mentor team members for career growth and advancement.
  • Identify training gaps and ensure mandatory training completion.

    • Warehouse systems and technology

  • Utilize Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), RF scanners, and reporting tools.
  • Leverage experience with Amazon systems and processes, including rate tracking, workflows, and standard work.
  • Ensure accurate inventory handling and system updates.

    • Qualifications

    Education and experience

  • High school diploma required; post-secondary education is an asset.
  • Mandatory: previous experience working at Amazon in a warehouse or fulfillment center environment.
  • 2-5 years of experience in warehouse operations, logistics, or distribution.
  • 1-3 years of leadership or supervisory experience.

    • Skills and knowledge

  • Strong understanding of high-volume, fast-paced warehouse environments.
  • Proven ability to manage productivity metrics and KPIs.
  • Familiarity with Lean principles and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of Ontario health and safety regulations.
  • Experience with WMS systems and RF technology.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

    • Working conditions

  • On-site role within a warehouse environment.
  • Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting.
  • Requires flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, or peak seasons.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures depending on warehouse conditions.
