This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Oracle DBA based in Austria.
As an Oracle DBA, you will provide expert database administration and technical consulting support in a fully remote environment. You will work with complex Oracle database environments across multiple versions, including 10g, 11g, 12c, and 19c. The role offers significant ownership across database upgrades, migrations, performance tuning, high availability, backup and recovery, and engineered systems. You will contribute to challenging client projects while helping maintain secure, reliable, and highly performing database platforms. The position requires strong technical judgment, analytical thinking, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a consulting team. You will also have opportunities to work with modern cloud environments and solve complex infrastructure and database challenges.
- Administer Oracle database environments: Provide expert-level administration and support across Oracle 10g, 11g, 12c, and 19c environments, ensuring stability, reliability, and performance.
- Support Oracle Engineered Systems: Work hands-on with Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) and Exadata environments, leveraging their capabilities to support demanding workloads.
- Lead database upgrades: Plan and execute database upgrades, including hands-on migration and upgrade activities to Oracle 19c.
- Perform database migrations: Design and execute database platform migrations while minimizing disruption and maintaining data integrity.
- Optimize database performance: Diagnose performance issues and implement tuning strategies across Oracle database environments.
- Manage backup and recovery: Apply expert-level knowledge of RMAN to support robust backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery processes.
- Maintain high availability and resilience: Work with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, partitioning, and compression technologies to support scalable and resilient database architectures.
- Monitor database environments: Use Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control to monitor, manage, and troubleshoot database infrastructure.
- Support underlying operating systems: Apply system-administrator-level knowledge across at least two supported platforms, such as Linux/OEL, Solaris, AIX, or HP-UX.
- Support consulting engagements: Contribute to implementations, upgrades, migrations, troubleshooting, and other technical initiatives across client environments.
- Estimate and deliver work accurately: Provide realistic effort estimates, establish clear commitments, and deliver work according to agreed timelines and expectations.
- Document technical work: Maintain clear and accurate technical documentation while communicating effectively with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Solve complex technical challenges: Apply analytical thinking and creative problem-solving to diagnose issues and develop practical solutions.
- Collaborate effectively: Work as a constructive member of distributed project teams and contribute positively to a fast-paced consulting environment.
- Provide flexible technical support: Be available for occasional non-business-hours work when project or client requirements demand it.
- 10+ years of professional Oracle DBA experience, with strong hands-on expertise across Oracle 10g, 11g, 12c, and 19c.
- At least 2 years of experience working with Oracle Engineered Systems, particularly Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) and/or Exadata.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience upgrading databases to Oracle 19c.
- Proven experience with database platform migrations and complex Oracle database implementations.
- Strong understanding of Oracle RDBMS architecture, administration, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Advanced Oracle database performance tuning capabilities.
- Expert-level knowledge of RMAN, including backup and recovery processes.
- Hands-on experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, partitioning, and compression.
- Experience using Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control for database monitoring and management.
- System administrator-level knowledge of at least two operating systems, including Linux/OEL, Solaris, AIX, or HP-UX.
- Strong verbal, written, organizational, and technical documentation skills.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability, combined with a practical and creative approach to complex technical issues.
- Ability to provide accurate effort estimates, manage commitments, and consistently deliver against agreed objectives.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced consulting environment, including occasional work outside standard business hours.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work productively within distributed teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Cloud experience is highly desirable, particularly hands-on experience supporting Oracle databases in cloud environments.
