Texas Aerospace Scholars Operations Specialist - Central Campus

FUNCTION: Serves as the Technology leader for all Aerospace Scholars education programs, to ensure the appropriate technology is used and available for curriculum as well as for reporting.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Job Functions

• Specialist shall coordinate operations and logistics for student onsite events, including facility reservations, purchase of consumables, visitor badging, staffing schedules, etc.
• Specialist will organize registration and logistics with students and their parent/guardian, such as lodging, meals, and transportation to the center from their Texas residence.
• Specialist shall conduct activities that contribute to the evaluation and improvement of the TAS program.
• Specialist shall disseminate surveys provided by internal and external evaluators.
• Specialist shall organize focus groups for internal and external evaluators.
• Specialist shall organize, attend, and report minutes from meetings with internal and external stakeholders, including travel to stakeholder locations.
• Specialist shall create status and forecast reports as needed to assist with reporting.
• Specialist shall verify that new content and equipment meets NASA IT security requirements.
• Specialist shall obtain and maintain any licenses, certifications, or subscriptions required to operate new equipment and IT tools.
• Specialist shall review and suggest amendments position requirements for each of the following positions: Technical Reviewer, Design Challenge Facilitator, Moderator, Onsite Counselor, and Lead Onsite Counselor.
• Specialist shall coordinate payment Technical Reviewers, Design Challenge Facilitators, Moderators, and Counselors.
• Specialist shall conduct activities associated with the application process.
• Specialist shall create and update engagement openings in NASA STEM Gateway application system as appropriate.
• Specialist shall coordinate purchases for program materials using San Jacinto issued purchase card.
• Specialist shall lead quality assurance and accessibility reviews for public facing documents, websites, graphics, etc.

Additional Job Functions:

• Specialist shall support training needs to develop and deliver training and materials (synchronous and asynchronous) for participants, educators, SMEs, and mentors.
• Specialist shall use a NASA approved system to support and facilitate student, faculty, NASA mentor activities and interactions such as content delivery, discussion boards, deliverable submissions, content repository, meetings, etc.
• Specialist shall support new course design for the expansion of TAS.
• Specialist shall support implementation of newly developed content and IT tools.
• Specialist support training for summer staff to include Moderators, Onsite Counselors, NASA SMEs and summer interns.
• Specialist shall disseminate and collect all forms and approvals required for student participation in the onsite events.

REQUIRED/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of Texas Aerospace Scholars Program;
• Knowledge of current principles and practices for K12 students and educators;
• Knowledge of a variety of online tools, including Canvas and Adobe;
• Experience using communication style books to support quality assurance;
• Ability to solve problems and make decisions in a changing environment;
• Documented successful experience working as a team player;
• Active listening skills;
• Communicate effectively using professional written, verbal, and oral techniques;
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel;
• Multi-tasking abilities.

Education and Experience:

Required Education:

• Bachelor’s degree
  

Preferred Education:

• Master’s Degree
  

Required Experience:

• Three to five years experience in developing high school curriculum;
• Three to five years experience in teaching math or science (or related topics);
• Three to five years experience in teaching in virtual and classroom environments;
• Three to five years experience in facilitating learner-centered design applications;

Preferred Experience:

• More than five years experience in developing high school curriculum;
• More than five years experience in teaching math or science;
• More than five years experience in teaching in a virtual environment;
• More than five years experience in STEM Gateway for OSTEM or other;
• More than five years experience in facilitating learner-centered design applications;

Salary Grade: 115
