About the Role

Comagine Health is seeking a highly detail-oriented, self-motivated Accountant to join our Finance and Accounting team. This primarily remote position is ideally suited for candidates located in the Portland, Oregon; Seattle, Washington; or Salt Lake City, Utah metropolitan areas.

While most responsibilities can be performed remotely, the position requires once per week in-office work to support accounts payable activities, including physical check processing and printing. Candidates should be able to accommodate these responsibilities at a designated Comagine Health office, particularly during the initial year of employment. Specific arrangements and frequency may be discussed during the hiring process. This could be out of either our Portland, Oregon office, Murray, Utah office, or our Tukwila, WA office.

The Accountant plays an important role in supporting the organization's financial operations through general ledger accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and financial reporting.

In this position, you'll work independently within established accounting procedures to ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately, accounts are reconciled, and discrepancies are thoroughly investigated and resolved. You'll also collaborate with internal departments and external vendors to support efficient financial processes, maintain strong internal controls, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

We're looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, and proactively identifies and addresses issues. The ideal candidate is comfortable managing competing priorities, working independently, and ensuring accuracy and completeness in every aspect of their responsibilities.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys a combination of hands-on accounting responsibilities, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration.

What You'll Do

General Ledger & Month-End Close

  • Prepare and record journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger balances.
  • Support monthly financial close activities and account reconciliations.
  • Assist in preparing financial reports and audit documentation.
  • Ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with established accounting policies.

Accounts Receivable

  • Manage invoicing activities and maintain accurate accounts receivable records.
  • Post customer payments, credit memos, and related transactions.
  • Monitor outstanding balances and review accounts receivable aging reports.
  • Research discrepancies and coordinate follow-up activities to support timely collections.

Accounts Payable & Vendor Relations

  • Review and process vendor invoices, ensuring appropriate documentation and approvals.
  • Coordinate payment processing and maintain accurate accounts payable records.
  • Respond to vendor inquiries and resolve billing or payment discrepancies.
  • Support timely and accurate payment activities.

Account Reconciliation & Financial Analysis

  • Reconcile accounts receivable, accounts payable, and related general ledger accounts.
  • Investigate financial variances and transaction discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to resolve accounting issues.
  • Maintain accurate and complete financial records.

Financial Reporting & Process Improvement

  • Prepare reports related to accounts receivable and accounts payable activity.
  • Analyze financial trends, identify irregularities, and support internal reporting needs.
  • Recommend improvements to accounting workflows, processes, and internal controls.
  • Support initiatives that improve the accuracy and efficiency of financial operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to manage responsibilities independently.
  • Effective organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with government contracting or government-funded programs
  • Familiarity with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and government contract accounting requirements.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization or other regulated financial environment.
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint

What Will Make You Successful

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has an exceptional eye for detail. You take pride in producing accurate, complete work and recognize the importance of getting the details right.
  • Takes initiative and ownership. You're a self-starter who proactively identifies what needs to be done and follows through without requiring constant direction.
  • Enjoys solving problems. You investigate discrepancies, ask thoughtful questions, and work independently to find solutions.
  • Manages competing priorities effectively. You stay organized, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy even when balancing multiple responsibilities.
  • Values accountability and strong financial controls. You understand the importance of accurate financial records, established procedures, and responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
  • Looks for opportunities to improve. You're willing to suggest more efficient processes and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Thrives in a remote environment. You're comfortable working independently while maintaining strong communication and collaboration with your team.

Work Environment

This position is primarily remote and must be performed from a home-based workspace with reliable internet access and minimal distractions.

Occasional in-office attendance is required to support certain accounts payable responsibilities, including physical check processing and printing. These responsibilities are expected to be particularly relevant during the first year of employment, with scheduling and arrangements determined based on operational needs.

The role requires frequent use of computers, phones, and virtual communication tools. Employees must be able to sit for extended periods, communicate effectively, and occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
