Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

This position is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the site improvement portfolio, supporting project governance and risk management practices, overseeing internal reporting requirements, and maintaining the effectiveness of the site’s Management Operating System (MOS). The role requires strong collaboration, leadership, and the ability to influence positive change across all levels of the organization in a mining environment.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIESSafety & Compliance (20%):- Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with mine safety standards, environmental requirements, and regulatory obligations.
- Participate in proactive safety initiatives to reduce risk and support continuous improvement in workplace safety performance.
- Support a safe and healthy work environment for employees and contractors.
Improvement Portfolio Management (40%):
- Facilitate and coach operational teams in the deployment of continuous improvement practices and operational efficiency initiatives.
- Support teams in evaluating current processes, identifying improvement opportunities, and implementing sustainable operational improvements aligned with business objectives.
- Monitor improvement initiatives to ensure milestones, budgets, timelines, and deliverables are achieved.
- Review project plans, charters, and requirements to ensure alignment with governance standards.
- Ensure project teams have access to the tools and resources required for successful project execution.
- Coordinate post-implementation reviews to evaluate long-term project benefits and operational performance outcomes.
Stakeholder Engagement & Internal Reporting (30%):
- Collaborate with operational departments and leadership teams to provide updates on project status, risks, support requirements, and outcomes.
- Engage stakeholders to ensure clear understanding of project objectives and improvement priorities.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration across departments to support integrated planning and operational alignment.
- Coordinate the timely and accurate delivery of internal operational reports, including weekly and monthly reporting requirements.
Management Operating System (MOS) Governance & Strategic Improvement Support (10%):
- Support governance of the site Management Operating System (MOS) to ensure ongoing effectiveness and compliance.
- Conduct audits and assessments of MOS processes, standards, and documentation.
- Lead revisions and updates to MOS documentation and processes to align with operational and business requirements.
- Support development and execution of site improvement frameworks and strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate with leadership teams to prioritize improvement initiatives based on operational needs, resource availability, and risk.
- Promote consistent project management and risk management practices across the organization.
- Drive accountability, alignment, and continuous improvement through effective leadership and communication.
- Support the development of operational culture programs that reinforce site values, behaviors, and continuous improvement mindsets.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in an advisory role driving process improvement initiatives
• Strong understanding of project governance, risk management, and change management principles
• Ability to manage organizational change and influence stakeholders across multiple organizational levels
• Strong financial, analytical, and organizational skills
• Strong communication and leadership abilities
• Ability to analyze complex operational and project data and identify trends
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage competing deadlines
• Systems-thinking approach to problem solving and operational improvement
• Valid driver’s licensePreferred• Bachelor’s degree
• PMP, PgMP, Lean, or Six Sigma certification
• Experience leading large-scale improvement or operational projects
• Experience in mining or heavy industrial operations
• Experience with Management Operating Systems (MOS) and continuous improvement frameworks WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS• Primarily office-based role with regular interaction in operational and field environments
• Up to 50% of time spent working directly with operational teams in active mining and processing areas
• Frequent walking on uneven ground and industrial work surfaces
• Exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, and industrial environments
• Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in operational areas
• May require climbing stairs, ladders, and accessing elevated work areas
• Combination of office, plant, and field work environments
