Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr Manager, Quality Engineering based in Brazil.
This role offers the opportunity to lead a Quality Engineering function focused on building reliable, scalable, and high-quality software solutions. You will manage a team responsible for quality standards, shared frameworks, and testing practices across complex distributed systems. The position combines people leadership with hands-on technical oversight across APIs, microservices, integrations, and end-to-end testing. You will influence product and technical decisions through design reviews, risk assessment, and evaluation of emerging technologies. The role also emphasizes resilience, performance, and production quality, using real-world signals to prevent recurring failures. You will work in a fast-paced, collaborative remote environment where engineering excellence and business impact are closely connected.
- Lead and develop a Quality Engineering team responsible for establishing quality standards, shared testing frameworks, adoption guidelines, and consistent engineering practices.
- Review business requirements and contribute to functional and technical design documentation, ensuring quality considerations are incorporated throughout the development lifecycle.
- Design and implement comprehensive testing procedures for APIs, abstractions, integration patterns, and distributed systems, including end-to-end and integration testing.
- Participate actively in technical and design reviews, providing informed input on requirements, product designs, delivery schedules, technical risks, and potential issues.
- Establish practices that support team productivity, delivery predictability, engineering efficiency, and consistently high-quality outcomes.
- Review code and maintain accountability for the team's software development and testing activities, ensuring appropriate engineering and quality standards are followed.
- Lead or contribute to proof-of-concept initiatives and technical evaluations of new technologies, assessing their potential value and applicability to quality engineering practices.
- Drive testing strategies for distributed microservices, including API, contract, integration, and service testing, as well as service virtualization, mocking, test data management, and validation across multiple environments.
- Oversee performance, load, chaos, and resilience testing to identify scalability constraints, resource limitations, degradation patterns, and potential system failure modes.
- Use production signals such as incidents, logs, alerts, defects, and customer-impact patterns to identify systemic quality gaps, improve test coverage, and implement safeguards that reduce recurring production failures.
- Promote effective testing of event-driven and asynchronous architectures, ensuring correctness and resilience across complex system interactions.
- Foster a collaborative team environment that connects quality engineering priorities with business needs and supports the delivery of robust solutions.
- Encourage the responsible adoption of emerging technologies, including Generative AI tools, to improve engineering productivity and everyday work practices.
- 8+ years of relevant professional experience combined with a Bachelor's degree, or 11+ years of relevant professional experience without a degree requirement.
- Proven experience designing and implementing testing procedures for APIs, integration patterns, and distributed software environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering or quality teams, with responsibility for productivity, delivery predictability, collaboration, and high-quality outcomes.
- Strong experience with code reviews and accountability for software development and testing activities.
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing API, contract, integration, and service testing for distributed microservices, including service virtualization, mocking, test data management, and multi-environment validation.
- Experience with performance, load, chaos, and resilience testing, with the ability to identify scalability limits, resource constraints, degradation patterns, and system failure modes.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, asynchronous processing, and the challenges involved in validating complex system interactions.
- Ability to use production signals, including incidents, logs, alerts, defects, and customer-impact patterns, to identify systemic quality issues and develop preventative engineering safeguards.
- Strong technical judgment and communication skills, with the ability to contribute effectively to design reviews, technical evaluations, and discussions involving requirements, architecture, schedules, and risks.
- Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration, mentor teams, and create an environment focused on quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Experience working effectively in fast-paced environments while balancing technical excellence with business priorities and delivery objectives.
- Digital fluency and willingness to work with emerging technologies, including Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, to enhance everyday engineering practices.
- 100% remote work model, allowing the role to be performed remotely from Brazil.
- Opportunity to lead a Quality Engineering team working on complex distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and integration technologies.
- Significant technical and organizational influence through participation in design reviews, technology evaluations, quality strategy, and engineering standards.
- Exposure to emerging technologies, including Generative AI and modern software quality engineering practices.
- Opportunity to work in a collaborative, fast-paced engineering environment focused on delivering robust and scalable solutions.
- Professional growth through leadership responsibilities, technical challenges, and continuous evolution of quality engineering practices.
