Capabilities include UL-listed equipment, custom control and power panels, temporary power systems, equipment skidding, and engineered-to-order electrical products.
Position Summary The Electrical Estimator reviews customer drawings, specifications, one-lines, panel schedules, and equipment requirements to develop accurate material and labor estimates for custom electrical equipment. The ideal candidate has direct experience estimating, designing, engineering, or manufacturing UL 508A industrial control panels and low-voltage assemblies. This role requires determining components, enclosures, fabrication, wiring, labor, testing, and engineering effort to take a customer concept to a finished product.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Quotation
Review RFQs, specifications, one-line diagrams, schematics, panel schedules, and drawings.
Develop detailed estimates and accurate Bills of Material (BOMs) for custom panels and power distribution equipment.
Determine material, fabrication, assembly, wiring, testing, engineering, and production labor requirements.
Obtain vendor pricing, evaluate lead times, and identify cost-effective component alternatives while maintaining ratings.
Generate complete project pricing for management review and customer quotation.
Maintain estimating history and continuously improve standards based on actual production costs.
UL 508A / Electrical Equipment
Apply UL 508A standards during estimating and design, including component selection and application.
Evaluate voltage, amperage, SCCR, interrupting ratings, conductor sizing, overcurrent protection, and disconnecting means.
Utilize knowledge of breakers, disconnects, contactors, starters, relays, power supplies, transformers, terminal blocks, VFDs, and PLCs.
Identify UL-compliant component substitutions to resolve lead time or availability issues.
Collaborate with engineering and production to ensure designs are efficient and fully compliant.
Design & Preconstruction Support
Assist with preliminary panel layouts, equipment configurations, and sizing appropriate NEMA enclosures.
Evaluate space requirements and resolve design conflicts or missing details prior to production.
Develop conceptual arrangements for incomplete customer designs and support design-build opportunities.
Vendor & Supply Chain Coordination
Request and evaluate component manufacturer quotations.
Track component pricing, availability, and lead times across major electrical manufacturers.
Implement alternate sourcing strategies when specified items impact schedule or cost.
Equipment Experience
Experience estimating or designing one or more of the following is strongly preferred:
UL 508A Industrial Control Panels (Required)
Custom Electrical Control Panels & Motor Control Panels
Power Distribution Panels, Panelboards & Disconnect Assemblies
PLC / Automation Panels & VFD Panels
Transformer / Distribution Assemblies & Metering Assemblies
Temporary Power Distribution Equipment & Mobile Power Equipment
Custom NEMA 1 / NEMA 3R Electrical Enclosures
Skid-Mounted Electrical Equipment & Switchboards
Qualifications
Required:
3+ years of experience in electrical equipment estimating, panel design, electrical manufacturing, or a related field.
Working knowledge of UL 508A and industrial control panel construction.
Proficiency in reading one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel schedules, and specifications.
Strong understanding of electrical components, basic calculations (voltage, amperage, protection, sizing), and BOM creation.
Excellent communication, organizational, and technical decision-making skills in a fast-paced custom manufacturing setting.
Preferred:
UL 508A Manufacturer Technical Representative (MTR) experience or prior panel-shop experience.
Familiarity with NEC requirements, SCCR calculations, and major manufacturers (Schneider Electric, Square D, Eaton, Siemens, ABB, Allen-Bradley, etc.).
Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical, or manufacturing ERP/estimating software.
What Success Looks Like Turning an RFQ, sketch, or specification into a buildable, compliant, and profitable 5K Power solution. Working closely across Sales, Engineering, Purchasing, and Production to ensure equipment is accurately priced, cost-effective, and delivered on schedule.
