Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing of TraXtion's mechanical systems and components.
This role works as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team and collaborates closely with the Product Owner, electrical and embedded engineers, technicians, machinists, and manufacturing partners. The Mechanical Engineer will translate established product requirements into practical mechanical designs and engineering solutions while supporting projects from concept and prototyping through testing and production.
The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with practical, hands-on experience and is comfortable working across CAD design, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do
Mechanical Design & Engineering
• Develop mechanical designs and engineering solutions based on established product requirements and specifications.
• Design structural frames, motion mechanisms, enclosures, supports, and mechanical components.
• Develop mechanical solutions for equipment and systems used in TraXtion products.
• Apply principles of mechanics, materials, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and related engineering disciplines as appropriate.
• Evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems for functionality, durability, safety, manufacturability, and performance.
• Develop design alternatives and engineering solutions to address technical challenges.
• Participate in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, designs, and applicable standards.

CAD Modeling & Engineering Documentation
• Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, parts, assemblies, and fabrication drawings.
• Generate production-ready engineering drawings and documentation.
• Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support manufacturing, purchasing, testing, and assembly.
• Document design changes, testing results, and engineering activities.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation throughout the design and development process.

Prototyping & Testing
• Develop and build prototypes in-house or in collaboration with outside vendors.
• Use methods such as 3D printing, machining, and hands-on assembly to support prototyping and development.
• Develop testing and validation methods for mechanical components and systems.
• Conduct mechanical testing, including load, stability, vibration, and functional testing as applicable.
• Analyze test results and make design recommendations based on findings.
• Evaluate system and component capabilities through feasibility studies, testing, and engineering analysis.
• Modify and refine designs based on testing and validation results.

Manufacturing & Production Support
• Design and modify components and equipment to support fabrication, assembly, and installation.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to engineering designs.
• Work closely with technicians, machinists, manufacturing teams, and external vendors to produce components and assemblies.
• Support material selection, component sourcing, purchasing, and vendor coordination as needed.
• Provide technical engineering support for production, assembly, product development, and process improvement.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and manufacturing issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Support the transition of designs from prototype to production.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Collaborate with the Product Owner to understand and clarify product requirements and technical needs.
• Partner with electrical and embedded engineering teams to support mechanical and electromechanical system integration.
• Work with engineers, technicians, machinists, and other team members to develop and refine engineering solutions.
• Account for sensors, motors, control hardware, wiring, and other components when developing mechanical designs.
• Participate in design reviews and incorporate technical feedback into engineering designs.
• Communicate engineering requirements, assembly procedures, and technical information clearly to relevant team members.
• Work with engineers and other stakeholders in the U.S. and abroad as needed.

Quality & Continuous Improvement
• Support product and component quality through appropriate testing, inspection, and validation.
• Verify that fabrication, assembly, and installation processes meet engineering requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve designs, processes, manufacturability, reliability, and efficiency.
• Investigate engineering and production problems and develop practical solutions.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the engineering and manufacturing process.

Project Support
• Support engineering projects from concept through design, prototyping, testing, and production.
• Maintain project documentation and engineering records.
• Manage assigned engineering tasks and deliverables within established timelines.
• Communicate project status, technical challenges, and potential delays to appropriate team members.
• Support project objectives and established budgets.
• Take on non-traditional tasks, responsibilities, and challenges as needed to support company goals and objectives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 2+ years of professional engineering experience
• Experience with mechanical product design and development.
• Experience creating 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Practical, hands-on experience building, testing, or developing mechanical projects through academic or professional work.
• Strong technical, analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.

Preferred:
• Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
• Experience with mechanical product design and development.
• Experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
• Experience with machining, fabrication, or hands-on assembly.
• Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
• Experience with CAM software.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes including injection molding, turning, milling, and welding.
• Familiarity with stepper motors, motion systems, sensors, or electromechanical integration.
