Job Description

Senior Communications Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Communications Manager based in the United States.

This role will lead communications strategy and storytelling for a mission-driven organization focused on community-led development and social impact.
You will shape compelling narratives that translate complex programs, research, and evidence into accessible and inspiring content for global audiences.
Working closely with leadership, department heads, country teams, partners, donors, and advisors, you will ensure communications support broader strategic and growth objectives.
The role combines strategic communications, copywriting, brand development, digital engagement, social media, and creative campaign development.
You will champion ethical, community-centered storytelling that elevates local voices, dignity, and community leadership.
You will also experiment with new formats, creative approaches, and artificial intelligence tools to increase engagement and strengthen external visibility.
This is an opportunity for a creative and entrepreneurial communications professional to shape a distinctive voice and directly contribute to organizational growth and impact.

Accountabilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive donor communications strategy for current, past, and prospective donors, including audience segmentation and platform-specific messaging priorities.
  • Design and execute multi-channel communications campaigns that support fundraising and revenue-growth objectives while creating compelling moments for donor engagement.
  • Ensure communications consistently elevate community voices and encourage thoughtful experimentation in how programs, impact, and opportunities are presented.
  • Refresh and strengthen the organization’s external narrative and voice, balancing rigor, ambition, optimism, and accessibility across communications.
  • Translate complex programs, research, and evidence into compelling stories, case studies, presentations, talking points, and audience-specific content.
  • Ensure storytelling consistently centers community experiences, dignity, leadership, and authentic perspectives.
  • Oversee design and brand execution across external communications to maintain a cohesive and recognizable identity.
  • Develop a practical narrative and brand toolkit covering core messages, voice, visual identity, and value proposition.
  • Equip staff and Board members with the guidance and tools needed to communicate the mission, approach, and impact consistently and confidently.
  • Curate events, online interactions, and engagement opportunities with partners and broader global audiences.
  • Maintain and strengthen communications platforms, including the website and social media channels.
  • Pilot innovative formats, messages, campaigns, and creative approaches, using experimentation and learning to continuously improve communications effectiveness.
  • Leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to develop and test new communications initiatives and pilots.
  • Bring creativity, confidence, originality, and strategic judgment to communications while maintaining professionalism and clarity.
  • Work closely with leadership and teams across multiple countries to ensure communications products and strategies align with organizational priorities and values.
Requirements
  • Bring at least 5 years of experience in communications and marketing, ideally within an entrepreneurial, mission-driven, or purpose-driven environment.
  • Demonstrate exceptional storytelling and copywriting abilities, particularly experience developing persuasive content in an advertising or similarly creative environment.
  • Have experience developing and executing email campaigns, social media strategies, and distinctive brand assets.
  • Possess a strong creative eye and an instinct for identifying communications approaches that inspire audiences to take action.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop original communications rather than simply replicating established industry approaches.
  • Be comfortable experimenting, testing new ideas, learning from results, and adapting strategies in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Balance speed and creativity with trust, accuracy, clarity, and sound professional judgment.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Be able to work independently while collaborating effectively with senior leaders, department heads, country teams, partners, donors, and advisors.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to social impact and community-centered communications.
  • Bring confidence, initiative, creativity, and the ability to move ideas from concept through execution.
  • Be comfortable working remotely and collaborating across geographically distributed teams and time zones.
  • Experience using AI tools for communications experimentation or content development is an advantage.
Benefits
  • Annual salary of approximately $80,000–$90,000, with final compensation based on experience and skills.
  • 100% employer-paid health insurance premiums for employees and 50% coverage for dependents.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a 3% employer contribution.
  • Generous paid leave.
  • Professional development stipend.
  • Additional benefits as part of a comprehensive employee benefits package.
  • Fully remote work within the United States, with New York or Washington, DC preferred and other U.S. locations considered.
  • Full-time position reporting to the Growth Director.
  • Opportunity to work on meaningful communications initiatives with a strong social-impact mission and international scope.
  • Three-month probation period with defined learning and performance objectives.
  • Opportunity to shape communications strategy, brand voice, creative campaigns, and digital engagement from the ground up.
  • Exposure to collaboration with teams and partners across multiple countries, including Rwanda, Malawi, Ghana, and other locations.
