Position Overview
The Senior Project Engineer serves as the technical leader for assigned projects and is responsible for ensuring engineering deliverables are executed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with EAE USA standards. This position provides technical leadership and mentorship to Project Engineers and Junior Project Engineers while maintaining ownership of complex engineering activities from project pursuit through project completion.
The Senior Project Engineer acts as the primary engineering resource on major or technically complex projects, coordinating with Sales, Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Field Service, Supply Chain, HQ Engineering, and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality engineered solutions that meet customer expectations, project schedules, and company objectives.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will lead engineering activities for complex projects, support pre-quotation efforts, guide project execution, and partner with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, high-quality electrical power distribution solutions.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership
• Serve as the project-level technical lead for assigned Capital and Enterprise projects, providing engineering authority for the application and configuration of established EAE products within approved product ratings, certifications, standards, and design limits.
• Provide technical direction and guidance to Project Engineers and Junior Project Engineers throughout project execution.
• Review engineering drawings, layouts, models, and documentation for technical accuracy and compliance.
• Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable NEC, UL, ETL, IEC, customer specifications, and EAE engineering standards.
• Lead resolution of complex technical issues while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Support engineering standardization and promote best practices across the engineering organization.
Pre-Quotation Engineering Support
• Lead engineering support during project pursuits and proposal development.
• Review customer requirements, specifications, one-line diagrams, BIM models, and project documentation.
• Develop conceptual layouts, preliminary engineering designs, and system recommendations.
• Prepare and review Bills of Material (BOMs), equipment selections, and product configurations.
• Provide technical clarification to Sales during quotation development.
• Participate in customer meetings to define project scope and technical requirements.
Project Engineering Execution
• Maintain technical ownership of assigned projects from order entry through project closeout.• Develop detailed engineering drawings, layouts, BIM models, BOMs, and project design packages.
• Review customer markups and coordinate engineering revisions.
• Verify equipment selections, system layouts, project configurations, and engineering documentation prior to release.
• Maintain project technical configuration control, ensuring alignment between approved customer requirements, drawings, BIM models, BOMs, busway routing, equipment selections, manufacturing documentation, approved engineering changes, and field conditions.
• Identify, evaluate, document, and manage project-level technical risks associated with busway routing, system configuration, equipment selection, interfaces, constructability, manufacturing requirements, field conditions, and customer requirements.
• Ensure engineering deliverables are completed in accordance with project schedules.
• Proactively communicate and escalate significant technical or schedule risks as required.
• Coordinate engineering activities with Manufacturing, Procurement, Logistics, and Field Service.
• Support factory production by resolving project-specific engineering questions and design issues.
• Maintain project technical configuration within established product designs, ratings, certifications, approved components, and engineering standards.
• Identify project requirements or conditions that cannot be satisfied within established product configurations and escalate them to the appropriate HQ/Product Engineering authority for evaluation and approval.
Design Review & Quality Assurance
• Serve as the senior project-level technical reviewer for assigned projects and conduct formal design reviews prior to release for manufacturing.
• Review and approve project-level engineering changes for technical impact and implementation when such changes remain within established product designs, ratings, certifications, approved configurations, and engineering standards. Escalate changes affecting controlled product designs, components, ratings, certifications, or product requirements to the appropriate HQ/Product Engineering authority for review and approval.
• Verify compliance with customer specifications, applicable codes and standards, and internal engineering requirements.
• Evaluate, coordinate, document, and approve project-level engineering changes prior to implementation, including assessment of impacts to drawings, BIM models, BOMs, equipment configuration, manufacturing, schedule, field installation, compliance, and previously released engineering documentation.
• Verify that required design reviews, technical selections, customer requirements, project interfaces, and engineering changes have been completed and resolved prior to engineering release for manufacturing.
• Support Quality Control with investigations, nonconformance reviews, corrective actions, and warranty evaluations.
• Identify opportunities to reduce engineering errors, improve efficiency, and minimize rework.
Customer & Project Support
• Serve as the primary engineering contact for assigned projects.• Participate in customer meetings, design reviews, BIM coordination sessions, and technical discussions.
• Support project execution teams by providing timely technical responses.
• Coordinate technical communication with EAE HQ Engineering and external design partners when required.
Field & Site Support
• Provide engineering support during field installation as required.
• Review field conditions and develop engineered solutions for field modifications.
• Perform or oversee field measurements for custom and field-fit components.
• Assist contractors, installers, and Field Service Engineers with technical questions.
• Support customer training related to EAE products, installation practices, and engineering requirements.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
• Mentor Project Engineers and Junior Project Engineers through daily technical guidance.
• Review engineering work prior to submission or release.
• Share technical knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices across the engineering team.
• Support onboarding and development of new engineers.
• Promote engineering consistency, documentation quality, and continuous improvement nitiatives.

• Coordinate with HQ/Product Engineering when project requirements require evaluation of product-level changes, deviations, special configurations, or requirements outside
established product standards. Decision Making & Authority
The Senior Project Engineer is expected to:
• Make independent project-level technical decisions within established EAE engineering standards, approved product configurations, applicable codes and standards, and customer requirements.
• Serve as the senior project-level engineering authority for assigned projects within the established scope of the role.
• Approve project engineering deliverables and design packages for technical accuracy, completeness, and readiness for release.
• Authorize project engineering packages for release to manufacturing after required technical reviews and engineering requirements have been completed and resolved.
• Approve project-level engineering changes that remain within established product designs, ratings, certifications, engineering standards, and approved configuration limits.
• Recommend engineering solutions to complex customer and project challenges.
• Escalate significant technical, commercial, certification, compliance, or schedule risks to the Project Engineering Manager and/or appropriate engineering authority.
• Provide technical recommendations regarding engineering processes, standards, and continuous improvement.
• Exercise project-level engineering authority for the application, configuration, integration, and execution of established EAE products within approved product designs, ratings,certifications, engineering standards, and configuration limits.
• Escalate proposed changes affecting established product designs, product ratings, certifications/listings, controlled components, manufacturing standards, or product-level engineering requirements to the responsible Product/HQ Engineering authority.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, an Associate degree with demonstrated equivalent professional experience, or 5+ years of electrical design experience.
• 5-8+ years of engineering experience within electrical power distribution, mission-critical infrastructure, electrical equipment manufacturing, consulting engineering, or a related industry.
• Minimum 1-2 years of experience with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, BIM coordination, or equivalent engineering design software.
• Strong understanding of low-voltage power distribution systems, busway systems, switchgear, and associated electrical equipment.
• Familiarity with NEC, UL, ETL, IEC, or any other applicable industry standards.
• Demonstrated experience leading technically complex engineering projects.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and provide technical leadership.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and project coordination skills.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a design and engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting hyperscale data center, industrial, commercial, healthcare, mission-critical infrastructure projects or any other projects requiring electrical design.
• Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud, Autodesk Forma, BIM 360, or similar collaboration platforms.
• Experience supporting engineered-to-order or project-based electrical equipment, including project configuration, engineering change management, manufacturing release, design standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
